Orland Township Flu Shots

Influenza (the flu) is a serious disease that can lead to hospitilization and sometimes even death. Healthy people can easily catch the flu and spread it to others. In a regular flu season, 90% of deaths occur in people 65 years and older. An annual flu vaccine is the best way to reduce one's chances of catching the seasonal flu and spreading it to others.

Anyone six months of age and older should get a flu shot, but it's even more important for some people to get vaccinated. These people include those who are at high risk of developing complications like pneumonia if they catch the flu. These high-risk individuals include the following:

  • Those with a medical condition like asthma, diabetes and chronic lung disease or those who live with or care for individuals with these medical conditions
  • Pregnant women
  • People 65 years and older

To prevent the spread of the flu virus within the community, Orland Township is offering flu shots to residents from Sept. 23 through Oct 28. Proof of residency is required. Orland Township boundaries include Orland Hills, Orland Park (east of Will Cook Road and south of 135th Street), Tinley Park (west of Harlem Avenue and north of 183rd Street), and unincorporated Orland Park.

Residents over the age of 65 with Medicare Part B are eligible to receive the immunization free of charge. A Medicare Part B card must be presented at the time of vaccination. Those with an HMO/Medicare plan are not eligible for a free vaccination and should visit their primary care physician.

Vaccines for residents between 19 and 65 are available for $20. Children 18 years of age and younger who are either Medicaid eligible (includes All Kids recipients), Native American (American Indian, Alaskan Native ) or uninsured may receive a vaccination free of charge. Orland Township's office is located at 14807 S. Ravinia Avenue, Orland Park.
