Lori Haskett at Orland Junior High is Teacher of the Month

She received $1,000 from St. Xavier University and was featured on WGN TV.

Lori Haskett teaches physical education classes at Orland Junior High and coaches sports. She was recently recognized as October Teacher of the Month by St. Xavier University and WGN.

“You remember back in the day, we used to roll out the ball and you just play sports," Haskett told WGN. "Here at Orland Junior High we have a set up where the kids play a variety of sports as well but we have it set up so the kids use heart monitors. What I think is the coolest thing about heart monitors is it doesn’t matter if you are the star athlete or the kid who loves to read a book because the way it is set up it individualizes everything and every student can stay on target.

"The kid who is not a true athlete, doesn’t work out a lot, they still get something out of it by what they do on their individual fitness level, which I think is pretty cool.”
