Reptiles, Snowcones and Flags: National Night Out 2012 (Gallery)

Orland Park joined people nationwide for the National Night Out Against Crime, where neighborhoods celebrated and learned about different safety methods, from paper shredding to avoiding drunk driving and more.

Orland Park residents turned out in force for the annual National Night Out Against Crime at the on Aug. 7.

“Orland Park’s National Night Out festivities heighten the awareness of our residents and businesses, helping them learn what they can do to help prevent crime,” said Chief Timothy McCarthy, . “The night’s activities are directed, to a large extent, to the children in our community to encourage them to be alert for criminal activity and to make them more comfortable with the police in an informal, fun environment.”

The event featured representatives from the Orland Fire Protection District, a disc jockey from Electric Blue Entertainment, Mr. D’s Magic Show and Jim Nesci’s Cold Blooded Creatures.

The event also featured bike registrations, gun locks, a drunk driving demonstration with a golf cart and several other activities.
