What Are the Deadliest Holidays on Illinois Roads?

Thanksgiving? Christmas? Labor Day? Holidays can be dangerous times for drivers. Which holidays are associated with the most traffic fatalities?

The Illinois Department of Transportation has compiled statistics on crashes during holidays between 2006 and 2012.

The data lists crashes where someone was killed as well as where someone was injured. There were no days in the data where alcohol did not play a part in some of the deaths. The numbers include any crashes between 6 p.m. the day before the first full day of the holiday period and 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the holiday period.

Overall it's clear that holiday driving can be deadly. Please be safe this upcoming holiday — and all days — while on the road.
