In January Concealed Carry becomes a reality in Illinois

A lot of folks have questions and concerns.  The objective of this Blog is to answer those questions honestly and simply without bias.

Please let me know if there are any specific questions on the law, what is and isn't allowed, where people are allowed to carry and why anyone would want to in the first place?

Let's start with the requirements to get an Illinois Concealed Carry permit:
To qualify for an Illinois Concealed Carry permit you must meet the following criteria:
1. Be 21 years of age
2. Have a valid Illinois FOID card (Firearm Owners Identification) If you don't already have one, allow 6 to 8 weeks or more for Illinois State Police processing.  Forms are available at any gun store or online from the Illinois State Police    Link to Illinois State Police FOID forms
3. Have no felony convictions and no existing restraining order or orders of protection and be able to pass an FBI background check
4. Complete 16 total hours of training*
(*Prior relevant training and military service may count for a total of 4 to 8 hours of the training)
5. Satisfactorily complete a course of Live Fire with a minimum of 30 rounds at a B-27 Silhouette Target with a 70% hit rate   
             - 10 rounds at 5 yards  
             - 10 rounds at 7 yards
             - 10 rounds at 10 yards
6. Submit an application with completed training certificate and fee to the Illinois State Police.

Note: The Illinois State Police have not determined if Digital fingerprints, a photo or both will also be required.
