Eagles Hockey Club Begins 2012-2013 Season

The Eagles Hockey Club, comprised of student players from Sandburg High School, begin their season this Friday September 28th, vs York High School at the Addison Ice Rink. JV game starts at 7:05PM, followed by the Varsity squad at 8:35PM.

Last year, both teams made the playoffs in their respective West Division of the Illinois High School Hockey League. They also competed in the Illinois Blackhawk Cup State playoffs, where the JV finished 16th out of 32 teams, losing to New Trier Green. The Varsity team finished 8th out of 32 teams, being eliminated by St. Viator, who ended up losing in the state championship game. The Eagles' Varsity team also had two of their players selected to the Illinois All State, and the Illinois Showcase team.

This year promises to be just as exciting, and action packed as usual. The JV team will be coached by Chris Moore, and assistant Scott Wienski, and the Varsity team will be headed by Matt McCurrie, assistants Dan Sechrist, and Matt Opyd. Both teams, again will be playing in the West of the IHSHL, HIT League, and competing in the Blackhawk Cup State Championships.

The teams head out to Detroit, Michigan to compete in the Motown Cup Tournament, on Oct 5th. The JV returns to their rink, Arctic Ice Arena in Orland Park, for their home opener, on October 12th vs. Marist High School at 7PM. The Varsity will open their home season at Arctic Ice Arena, in Orland Park, vs Lincolnway High School on Oct 20th, at 8:30 PM. Come out and watch the Eagles, and great high school hockey, at it's finest!
