Local Businessman and Radio Personality Will Shave his Head for Charity

Ed Kerfin, owner of Home Helpers / Lockport and host of WJOL "Friends Over Fifty" will shave his head to raise funds for CASA of Will County for abused and neglected children.

Ed Kerfin seeks to raise $5,000 in support of CASA of Will County

Lockport, IL, March 11, 2013 – Ed Kerfin, owner of Home Helpers / Lockport and host of WJOL “Friends Over Fifty” announced that he will shave his head in order to raise funds for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Will County, which acts as the voice in the court system for abused and neglected children. Kerfin serves on the Board of Directors for the charity.

The promotion was the brainchild of Kerfin’s on-air co-host, Ross Novak, who came up with the idea in honor of St. Baldrick’s, the charity for which participants shave their head to raise funds for children’s cancer research and treatment.  Novak also helps manage Home Helpers, a local business providing caregiving services to seniors and those needing assistance during the recovery process. The duo initially announced the fund drive on their radio show March 1 and quickly met their initial goal of $1,000, prompting them to extend the effort through the month of March with an ultimate goal to raise $5,000.

Those wishing to participate in the drive are encouraged to make a donation in any amount by sending a check made out to “Friends Over Fifty” in care of Home Helpers, 15736 Bell Road, Homer Glen, IL. 60491. All funds will be accepted through March 31 and held in account. Shortly after the end of the promotion, Kerfin and Novak will present a check to Rita Facchina, Executive Director of CASA of Will County, live on the air. At the same time, Kerfin will shave his head if at least $5,000 is raised.

“I’m excited about this promotion” said Kerfin, who is also running a campaign as a candidate for the Lockport Township High School Board. “It’s truly the least I can do to support a cause that I am truly passionate about.”
