Photo Gallery: Veterans Honored With Blessings and Gratitude

Fourteen new names added to Orland Park's Veterans Memorial during Friday's Veterans Day ceremony.

Abby Olivieri appreciates the honor her brother has received, despite the circumstances.

Private First Class Michael C. Olivieri was killed in June at an American base in Iraq. He was a field artillery data systems operator in the 1st Infantry Division, and was 26 when he died.  

“It’s hard to be part of this but at the same time it’s nice to honor what he did, even though it can be really difficult,” Abby Olivieri said Friday. “This is our first Veterans Day without him.”

Pfc. Michael Olivieri was among 14 veterans who have been added to the Orland Park Veterans Memorial.

Several of Olivieri’s family members, along with dozens of veterans and supporters, honored their loved ones during Orland Park’s Veterans Day ceremony on Friday.

Students from served as color guard members, and two students brought out a memorial wreath. provided refreshments, and even contractors repairing the village’s clock tower stopped working in observance of the ceremony.

“I’m glad to do whatever we can to honor his memory,” Abby Olivieri said.
