Orland Township Awarded by the Illinois Township Association of Senior Citizens Services Committee

I’m happy to announce that Orland Township was recently chosen as the recipient of the Illinois Township Association of Senior Citizens Services Committee’s 2012 Innovative Program of the Year award for the fundraiser event we hosted in October, “Dancing with the Senior Stars”, which allowed audience members to vote on the dancing abilities of six senior couples.

The award was given in acknowledgment of outstanding commitment to meeting the needs of seniors within the community, and our event was planned with that exact purpose in mind, as our seniors are an integral part of our community.

The evening was intended to provide the participants with an enjoyable, active evening out, as well as to support the Orland Township Scholarship Foundation, which provides financial assistance to gifted and hardworking high school students within the township.

With the help of our Senior Services Coordinator Marie Ryan, who helped organize the event by conducting a dance audition and working with all of the talented dancers, judges and musical entertainment from start to finish, the evening went off without a hitch, and we received tremendous feedback. I’m confident that the majority of those who attended the competition enjoyed themselves and appreciated the concept of the event.

I’d like to thank the Illinois Township Association of Senior Citizens Services Committee for this honor and for their recognition as we continue to create new and inventive ways to serve our residents.
