2 Males Rescued from Retention Pond in Tinley Park

Three male juveniles were found safe Friday night in Tinley Park, after a pond search with multiple area emergency crews assisting.  

Alerts were sent through scanners around 8 p.m. Friday night that a water rescue was happening in the 17500 block of Webster Avenue in Tinley Park. Two boys were rescued shortly after the first teams arrived. Then a search commenced for a third victim who was found around 10:30 p.m. He had never gone into the water.  

Tinley Park Police pulled their search boat from the pond at 10:25 p.m. Friday. It was determined, said Tinley Park Police Chief Steve Neubauer, that a third person had not gone into the water as was earlier suspected. 

He said two teenage boys had earlier been pulled from the pond. They had gone swimming. 

Neighbors in the area of Westbridge Drive said the pond was at least 15 feet at its deepest point. 

At least two of the boys were taken to an area hospital, but were conscious and breathing, according to Pat Carr, director of Emergency Management and 911 Services in Tinley Park.

Emergency teams from Orland Park, Palos, Dolton and East Hazel Crest assisted.

Two males were rescued about 7:15 p.m. Friday from a retention pond at 88th Avenue and 175th Street. Emergency crews and divers are actively searching for a potential third victim. 

Pat Carr, director of Emergency Management and 911 Services in Tinley Park, said the two were pulled from the pond. "They were both conscious and breathing." They were taken to area hospitals, he said.   

Emergency Management, police and area fire departments remain on the scene. "We are actively searching for a third victim," he said. 

Carr said the depth of the pond was unknown, but it appeared the "two went out into the water." They were not in a boat, he said.
