Allan Kustok Found Guilty of Murdering His Wife

A jury found Allan Kustok guilty of first-degree murder of his wife Anita “Jeanie” Kustok.

He faces 45 years to life.

It took a jury of six men, six women less than two hours to reach a verdict Tuesday in the nearly four-week trial. Prosecutors Monday delivered heated closing arguments and impassioned testimony from daughter Sarah Kustok.

Kustok, 63, shot his wife, Jeanie Kustok, in the face in September 2010. On the morning of her death, Allan Kustok claims to have been woken by a gunshot to find his wife of 34 years dead in bed alongside him.

Prosecutors pinpointed Kustok's behavior in the wake of his wife's death. Instead of calling 911—or anyone else—Allan Kustok picked up the six-shot revolver and fired the five remaining live bullets into an armoire.

“If he had waited five minutes [to call 911], I would still be standing here saying, ‘he’s guilty,’” Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Gonzalez told the jury. “He knew he wasn’t calling 911 that morning. He wanted to make sure she was dead.”
