A Berwyn man shot pepper spray into an Orland Couple's car during a traffic altercation on LaGrange Road, police said.

Omar Othman, 33, of 3529 Harlem Ave. was charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery in connection with the incident.

An Orland Park man reportedly told police he had problems with Othman on the road.

The man, 46-year-old Terrence Schultz, told an officer an aluminum can bounced off the windshield of his Kia Soul and he believed it came from Othman's Cadillac Seville, "so he pulled up alongside that vehicle and rolled down his window," police said.

Schultz yelled at Othman, "asking him what his problem was and why did he 'f---ing cut me off," police said.

Othman was "yelling back that 'he doesn't want any of of this' and to 'back off,'" police said.

"Terrence told him to pull over onto the median and they can talk about it, but he was suddenly hit in the face with an unknown liquid," police said. A woman sitting next to Schultz, 42-year-old Jennifer Schultz, was "also hit with some of the liquid in her face in the front passenger seat," police said.

Terrence Schultz was "starting to feel the burning on his face and in his eyes," police said. "He exited his vehicle and put his arms in the air and yelled 'What the f--k?' to the other driver."

Othman then sprayed another shot at Terrence Schultz but it apparently fell short.

The police tracked down Othman and he reportedly told an officer Terrence Schultz was "going crazy" and "screaming at him."

Othman "saw that (Terrence Schultz) was a big guy and he was still 'going crazy' as he screamed at him," police said. "He grabbed his pepper spray and sprayed it out the driver's side window towards the subject but he didn't know if it made it to him."

Othman reportedly denied shooting the pepper spray through the window of the other car but a witness told police he saw an orange or yellow substance go into the Soul.

An officer consulted with prosecutors and "determined that due to the inconsistencies of all the statements in reference to specific details of the spraying, as well as the mutual aggression that Terrence displayed toward Omar, both in and out of the vehicle, felony charges would not be pursued," police said.
