Brawl at the Mall: Battery/Retail Theft

On Aug. 17, police were called about a fight between a woman and a security guard at about 3:40 p.m. at H&M in the Orland Square Mall, 284 Orland Square Drive.

Officers reportedly found scratches on the security guard's face and a bite mark on her arm. A woman was seen placing merchandise into a bag she brought into the store, and the alarm went off as she tried to leave, police said. The woman walked toward Sears, where the security guard confronted her.

Police said the woman scratched the guard in the face, and the two grappled until the guard had the woman in a headlock, police said. The woman then reportedly bit the security guard's arm before being subdued, according to police.

Officers said they searched the woman's vehicle and found six small plastic bags containing marijuana and a glass pipe.

Devan M. Vanwitzenburg, 20, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft, battery and possession of marijuana. She reportedly told police she wanted the clothing to wear to a salon school, where she was studying to be a beautician, and that she regretted her actions.

Brawl at the Mall Part II: Disorderly Conduct

Police were called around 5:15 p.m. on Aug. 14 about a fight in progress between several women at Forever 21, 436 Orland Square Drive in the Orland Square Mall.

A store clerk reportedly told the women to leave the store, and one woman shoved her in the face. The women were then found outside of Sears.

Eboni A. Weeks, 20, of Hazel Crest, Passionea D. Spann, 20, of Flossmoor, Asia D. Spann, of 19, Flossmoor, Lanesha J. Wilkins, 18, of Markham, Gerica M. Glover, 20, of Hazel Crest, Aariona N. Cherry, 22, of Matteson, Chanda S. Davis, 25, of Blue Island, and Shontay Anderson, 24, of Richton Park, each were cited with disorderly conduct.

Anyone Remember the Video Game "Arch Rivals?": Battery

Police were called around 7 p.m. on Aug. 16 to Cachey Park at Wheeler Road and Edgewood Drive about an alleged battery. Witnesses and a man with cuts and swelling to his lips reportedly told officers that during a game of basketball, the man's opponent got mad about a supposed foul and punched him in the mouth.

Another man shoved the man who was punched, and the two alleged perpetrators then fled in a white Chrysler, according to police. Officers found the vehicle and charged both Victorino Garcia-Blanca, 20, and Doroteo Mendoza, 21, both of Orland Park, with battery.

Ripped Clothing: Criminal Damage to Property

On Aug. 16, police were called around 2:35 p.m. to Discovery Clothing, 15645 LaGrange Road, about a woman who reportedly tried to take items from the store before driving away in a tan Buick.

Officers stopped a vehicle near the 159th Street and 94th Avenue intersection that fit the description. A store clerk reportedly said Serafina Montgomery, 30, of Riverdale, was seen removing security tags on clothes and left the store quickly when confronted.

The clerk did not see her leave the store with any items. Officers said they found items in Montgomery's vehicle that were ripped, with a total value of about $40.

Out in the Open: Retail Theft

At about 6 p.m. on Aug. 17, police were called to Macy's in Orland Square by store security. They said a woman was reportedly seen taking jewelry out of boxes and putting the pieces into a bag along with other items. The woman then walked past the registers before she was stopped by store security, police said. The items totaled about $360. Kimberly J. Molsby, 32, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft.

Lot Scene: Possession of Paraphernalia

Police said that at about 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 17, a vehicle pulled into the lot of Marcus Theaters, 16350 LaGrange Road, and a man was seen in the passenger seat smoking a pipe. The man admitted to smoking marijuana out of the pipe, and a grinder was also found in the vehicle, police said. Matthew J. Stickler, 20, of Mokena, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

DUI

Police pulled over a vehicle at about 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 16 for swerving and changing lanes without signaling while in the 9100 block of 151st Street. The driver failed field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample, police said. Marsha J. Humphreys, 67, of Oak Forest, was charged with driving under the influence.
