Drunk Driver Car Crashes Into Orland Park House

There were no injuries after a car came crashing through a home in Orland Park early Sunday morning. 

At about 3:07 a.m. a car crashed into a home in the 8600 block of Grace Road, according to Orland Fire Chief Ken Brucki. The car was traveling south when it left the road, drove through a fence, into a wall and ended up resting in the basement. 

None of the three people who were home at the time of the accident were injured, Brucki reports. The residents were sleeping on the second floor above the impact. The driver was treated at the scene and did not have to be hospitalized.

, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions, failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash, driving without a license and driving without insurance, according to the Orland Park Police Department. Okon is a former Community Service Officer with OPPD, and resigned in Nov. 2012.

Orland Fire Protection District personnel and the Orland Park Building Department determined that the home had structural damage in the basement and tagged it as no occupancy until the house could be boarded and the structure was properly reinforced, Brucki said. 

The vehicle was removed from the basement without further damage to the home.
