Cops: Woman Caught Trying to Charge Over $2,000 to Forged Account

A Texas woman was caught using stolen identification to create a charge account at an Orland Park electronics store.

Alert employees helped police catch two women accused of forging credit accounts and stealing from two Orland Park stores.

On Dec. 17, the was called about a possible fraudulent purchase at Best Buy, 15854 LaGrange Rd., around 7:55 p.m. A woman took out a Best Buy credit card, using a Pennsylvania driver’s license and a corresponding social security number to obtain credit, police said. Store employees noted that the driver’s license photo matched the woman.

She then chose an Apple laptop, two iPads, a Bluetooth earpiece and two $500 gift cards to buy with the new credit account, according to the report. The woman then changed her mind about the gift cards, and then used a store Reward Zone card to purchase the electronics, police said.

Store security became suspicious of fraud, and called a phone number listed with the Reward Zone account. Messages were left though no one called back before the woman’s transactions were made, police said.

The woman then left the store, got into a black Chevy Suburban another woman was driving and the SUV left the parking lot. The SUV’s description and registration were then reported to police.

Officers then found the SUV parked outside of Macy’s and arrested the two women. Several ID cards, credit cards and gift cards were found in the vehicle, police said.

Zales store staff told police that the same woman also opened a false credit account at their store, using the same false identification as used in Best Buy, according to the report.  Employees from Best Buy and Zales confirmed that the woman in custody was the one who created the accounts, police said.

Once back at the police department, an officer spoke with the Pennsylvania woman whose identity was stolen, and she said she didn’t authorize either of the women to user her personal information, police said. The total value for the recovered items was not listed.

The woman who made the accounts, Tanya Robertson, 31, of the 8700 block of Thislemoor Lane in Houston, Tx. was charged with forgery.

The driver, Elizabeth M. Taylor, 37, of the 8300 block of Broadway Street in Pearland, Tx., was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property.

The SUV was rented in Taylor’s name and was scheduled to be returned that day, police said.
