Dormant Driver Slept Through Cop's Air Horn: Blotter

Orland Park DUI reports, Aug. 3.

SATURDAY, AUG. 3

Crossing The Median

Thomas W. Konidaris, 37, of the 11500 block of Settlers Pond Way, Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane use, following too closely and not wearing a seatbelt, according to an Orland Park police report.

A gray Honda Accord was spotted at about 2:43 a.m. in the 7800 block of 159th Street following the vehicle in front of it too closely, the report states. It also crossed into the median without signaling. When police stopped the car, they noticed that the driver, Konidaris, was not wearing a seat belt, and they could smell an odor of alcohol. Konidaris got out of the car and reportedly staggered as he stood.

Cops arrested Konidaris after he took tests for intoxication, police said. He is due on Sept. 18 in Bridgeview court.

Sleepy Time

Brian R. Coit, 33, of the 700 block of Buckboard Drive, New Lenox, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a report.

Cops found a car that was not properly parked at about 5:03 a.m. in a stall, at the Metra station, 17901 Southwest Hwy., the report states. The driver, Coit, was asleep at the steering wheel. An officer knocked on the windows, shook the car and blasted an air horn in an attempt to wake him up. Coit eventually opened his eyes and got out of the car.

Police said Coit had an "extremely strong" smell of alcohol coming from his mouth. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. Coit is due on Sept. 11 in Bridgeview court.

Police report information is provided by the Orland Park Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
