Drew Peterson Reunion: Court Supervision

Drew Peterson got all sorts of good news this week.

For one thing, he might have as much as $100 waiting for him at the state treasurer's office. And for another, three of the attorneys who represented him in one capacity or another over the years have signed on to appeal his murder conviction.

Steve Greenberg, David Peilet and John Heiderscheidt requested leave to file an appearance in the case.

Greenberg represented Peterson during his murder trial last summer. Peilet was part of Peterson's defense team during the post-conviction push to win a new trial. Heiderscheidt represents Peterson in a civil wrongful death case brought against him by relatives of his slain third wife, Kathleen Savio.

The three attorneys want to take the case from the state appellate defender's office.

Peterson is serving a 38-year sentence at Menard Correctional Center for Savio's murder.

This was a short week due to Independence Day, but plenty happened. Let's take a look at what went on at the area's courthouses:

• A Joliet man was charged with the murder of a teen found slain in an east side back yard. Ex-convict Ray Robinson, 20, allegedly gunned down 18-year-old Adrian Resendiz in June.
• A woman charged with a Carjacking another woman outside the Orland Park Red Lobster got a trial date. April Schmidt, 23, was scheduled to go on trial in August.
• A man charged with a sticking up an Orland Park jewelry store in 2011 was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Antoine Kelly, 33, asked for leniency and told Cook County Judge Colleen Hyland, "I never said I was an angel."
• The accident reconstruction report for a crash that killed an Orland Park man is expected to be completed by the end of the month, a prosecutor said during a hearing for Burr Ridge college student Nicholas Puccinelli. Puccinelli was charged with aggravated driving under the influence in connection with the deadly wreck.
• The attorney for a former Orland firefighter facing a pair of sex cases met with a prosecutor and a judge Tuesday for a closed-door meeting to try to hammer out a plea deal. The deal didn't get done, but Judge Hyland set an Aug. 2 date for negotiations in the case of 47-year-old Dean Milenkovic to continue.
• The attorney for former Advocate Christ Medical Center physician Rajat Prakash said during a hearing at the Bridgeview courthouse that the hospital might object to releasing a report of an interview conducted with a woman he allegedly abused sexually.
