Driver Still Critical After Accident On 135th

Police say alcohol may have been involved but no charges filed as of noon today.

A Romeoville man remains in critical condition after a single-vehicle accident this morning on 135th Street near Tallgrass Trail.

Orland Park Police were called by several people around 3:45 this morning and found a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix off the south side of 135th Street in the 8800 block, according to a news release. The 34-year-old driver found at the scene was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and was still listed critical as of noon today, Orland Park Police Cmdr. John Keating said.

Police arriving first on the scene said alcohol might have been a factor in this accident. Keating said no charges have been filed at this time.

Police said the car was traveling west on 135th when it crossed over to the other side of the road, striking a tree and a concrete-and-brick subdivision sign.

"It's too early to tell what the cost of damage is," Keating said. "It was a pretty decent sign so it might be a substantial cost."

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the driver has not yet been identified; 135th Street was closed for about four hours while police investigated the accident.
