Men Caught Unloading Over $60,000 in Stolen Laundry Detergent: Police

A Justice man and a Burbank man are facing felony charges after police found them while unloading $60,000 in stolen detergent, according to a release from the Orland Park Police Department.

Omar Daraghma, 30, of the 8000 block of Thomas Street in Justice, and Theaier Kartoum, 25, of the 7900 block of Nagle Avenue in Burbank, were each charged with theft and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Both are Class 2 felonies.

Police were called Saturday to the 15500 block of 70th Court about a stolen semi-trailer that was found around 10 a.m. A Bolingbrook-based trucking company told the Oak Forest Police Department that a trailer was stolen from them and was in the Oak Forest area, according to the release.

Oak Forest officers tracked the trailer to a lot on 70th Court in Orland Park, where they found Daraghma and Kartoum unloading the trailer, police said. The men said they were paid $100 to unload the truck, but wouldn’t say who hired them, according to the release.

The trailer’s owner said it was seen on video surveillance being driven off the lot on Saturday around 12:50 a.m. The trailer was attached to a white 2004 Freightliner tractor belonging to a Darien resident who said it was parked it on Frontage Road in Bolingbrook on Friday, police said.

The Bolingbrook Police Department and the Illinois State Police Tri-County Auto Theft Unit also investigated the case.

Daraghma and Kartoum were in court Monday morning in Bridgeview, where Judge Daniel Peters gave them the option of $50,000 bail with electronic home monitoring, or $20,000 bail, police said.

They are scheduled to be in court next on Feb. 18.
