No One Injured in Kitchen Fire

Fire crews are still investigating a kitchen fire in Orland Park Sunday night, though signs point to a stove that caught fire.

An Orland Park family’s quick response in notifying the Orland Fire Protection District about a fire in their home Sunday night helped crews quickly control the flames, a district official said.

Notice of a fire at 14436 Maycliff Drive went out around 6:50 p.m. Sunday night, with reports of smoke coming out of the front door, according to scanner traffic. Orland firefighters were on scene shortly thereafter, and found all the family members outside of the home. Neither the family nor firefighters were injured, and the fire was under control with 30 minutes, Orland Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Nick Cinquepalmi said at the scene.

Crews found a burnt up stove in the kitchen and heavy smoke in the house, though the fire’s cause is still under investigation, Cinquepalmi said. Firefighters were still on scene at 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

“The crew did a fantastic job taking control of the fire,” Cinquepalmi said. “We are pleased with their performance. It was fortunate that the family reacted as quickly as they did to notify us. That made a big difference.”
