A Minooka man was caught tooling around outside the Orland Square Mall, smoking pot with a buddy while his daughter slept in the back seat of his Jeep Liberty, police said.

The man, 26-year-old Ryan Blough of 118 Heritage Drive, was charged with endangering the life or health of a child, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also hit with a LaSalle County traffic warrant and a Will County warrant charging him with failing to appear in court for a driving under the influence case.

Blough's pal, Benjamin Carrescia, 23, of 22818 Kathy Drive in Channahon, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Blough's 4-year-old daughter was turned over to a 22-year-old woman who works at the mall. She is apparently a friend of his.

An Orland Park cop followed Blough as he drove around the mall three times, police said.

After Blough parked, the officer walked up to the open driver's side window and spotted a glass pipe full of pot balanced on Carrescia's leg, police said. The officer also reportedly noticed a yellow dish containing marijuana on the passenger seat between Carrescia's legs.

After Blough and Carrescia admitted to smoking pot, the officer noticed "there was a child in the rear passenger seat sleeping," police said. "Ryan advised that the child was his daughter and that she was 4 years old."

^Yeeeah that makes no sense. There will still be driving under the influence laws. Legalization of marijuana won't mean people can drive around toking up with their kid in the backseat.

Anyone who is commenting obviously has never smoked pot in their lives. Its not endangering the child. Its just illegal. I can smoke cigarettes which are life threatening with a child in the car but not pot?

Graciela, you are a misinformed follower of pot propaganda! "Legal" does NOT equal "Good Thing"! There are actual CHEMICALS in pot smoke that affect the BRAIN, which do NOT exist in cigarette smoke. The primary one is commonly known as THC, and it DOES effect a developing brain in some VERY nasty ways. For one thing, it messes up the chemical balance of your body (while this is bad for adults, it is VERY dangerous for kids), AND it kills off brain cells-- slowly but surely. In your body, only ONE system does not fix or rebuild itself when broken or when cells are damaged, and that is YOUR BRAIN. Your bones will heal, your body will make more blood, muscles can be fixed. But the nervous system-- YOUR BRAIN-- does NOT fix itself. Every brain cell you kill off is lost forever. Take a trip to an Alzheimer's facility to see the effects of brain cell loss and damage. Pot's effects are not as immediate and dramatic, but it IS the same. Like Alzheimer's patients, the person killing brain cells doesn't recognize it, but the people around them often do. Sadly, like the losers they tend to be, potheads rarely take the advice of those people and give it up. Talk to drug counselors about the ACTUAL effects, and look around at the LOSERS who smoke it-- who have bad school grades, no jobs, and no initiative in their own lives. Do you REALLY believe pot's "okay" for this little kid? If you do, then you shouldn't smoke so much of it yourself-- it's messed up your facilities for logic, reason, and FACT-BASED decisions.
