Orland Man Accused in DUI Death of Tinley Woman Pleads Not Guilty

Nicholas J. Gorny, 26, accused of driving while four times over the legal limit for alcohol and killing a 70-year-old woman, remained in jail Wednesday on $250,000 bail.

An Orland Park man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to his involvement in a DUI accident related to the death of a 70-year-old Tinley Park woman.

Nicholas J. Gorny, 26, of the 11000 block of Laurel Hill Drive in Orland Park, has been charged with two counts of , a Class 4 felony.

Gorny was speeding east on West Hadley Drive just west of Will-Cook Road on the morning of Aug. 27 when he crossed lanes and crashed into a car driven by Loretta Falat, 70, of Tinley Park, according Kathy Hoffmeyer, spokeswoman for .

Gorny was later found to have had a blood-alcohol level of .344, more than four times the legal limit, Hoffmeyer said.

Falat was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with multiple injuries and died at Loyola Medical Center on Sept. 27, Hoffmeyer said.

Gorny remained in Will County jail Wednesday on a $250,000 bail. Pretrial hearings are scheduled to begin Dec. 23 before Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak.

His attorney, Michael Young, entered a not guilty plea with the court on Wednesday.

“It’s a sad situation whenever anyone perishes,” he later said, “and we feel awful for the deceased.”
