Orland Park Police Blotter: Drunken Driver Almost Hits Cops Car and Store Clerk Steals Over $800 from Register

FRIDAY, DEC. 2

Wrong Way to Drive

Police pulled over an SUV after it almost sideswiped a squad car, then drove up onto a curb before cutting into the wrong side of the street on 157th Street near Lake Hills Court. Police smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath and found several beer bottles, as well as one tallboy can, on the passenger side floor, according to the report. The driver failed field sobriety tests, police said. Christian O. Cordero, 19, of the 15800 block of Orlan Brooke Drive in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, improper lane use and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Needles, Warrants Found

Police noticed suspicious people in a parked car while making a premises check in the 15600 block of 94th Avenue around 10:40 p.m. One passenger froze and made jerking movements as the officer drove nearby, police said. The officer saw a syringe in plain view inside the car, according to the report. One of the men gave the officer a false name, and was found to be wanted on two warrants, police said. Several empty baggies with white powder residue were also found on the wanted man, police said. Christopher M. Rauen, 23, of the 12200 block of South 71st Avenue in Palos Heights, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. Robert J. Ores, 21, of the 16700 block of Hilltop Avenue in Orland Hills, was arrested on a Palos Park warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia and an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant for parole violation. Ores was also charged with obstructing identification and possession of drug paraphernalia.  

Purse Ruse

Police were called about a woman held by store security for retail theft at JCPenney around 3 p.m. Security said the woman was seen putting children’s clothes into her purse and left the store without paying, according to the report. The items are worth $155.94. Leslie R. Hendrix, 26, of the 14400 block of Kilbourn Drive in Midlothian, was charged with retail theft.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 30

Theft

Police were called about an employee being held for theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods around 12:55 p.m. Security said they had video of a cashier ringing up refunds without the merchandise and pocketing the dollar amount, police said. The cashier took money 13 times for a total of $892.46 over the course of about two weeks, according to the report. Kristian E. Fairbanks, 23, of the 9500 block of McVicker Avenue in Oak Lawn, was charged with theft.

MONDAY NOV. 28

Retail Theft

Police were called to Macy’s about a retail theft around 9:05 p.m. An employee was seen taking earrings out of packaging, pocketing the earrings and then leaving the store without paying, police said. The earrings are worth $32. Kaitlin M. Berry, 18, of the 19300 block of Waterford Lane in Mokena, was charged with retail theft. 

SATURDAY, NOV. 26

Speeding Sleepy

Police pulled over a vehicle for speeding in the 14400 block of Jefferson Avenue around 12:40 a.m. The officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath and noticed the driver appeared to be sleepy, according to the report. The driver failed field sobriety tests, police said. Daniel J. Bixman, 38, of the 14400 block of Jefferson Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and failure to notify the Secretary of State’s Office of an address change.

Thrown Clothes

Police were called about two men causing trouble at H & M in Orland Square Mall around 12:50 p.m. The men were yelling at employees, throwing around merchandise, pushing racks to the ground and refused to leave despite repeated requests from employees and mall security, police said. Lamar Reynolds-Pollard, 21, of the 14400 block of Ashland Avenue in Harvey, and Darius L. Reynolds, 22, of the 300 block of Ellis Avenue in Iowa City, IA, were each cited for disorderly conduct and banned from the mall for a year.
