Orland Park Police Blotter: Family Caught Sneaking Out Perfume in Stroller

MONDAY, JAN. 30

Bail Grab

Police were called about a possible theft at Target around 5:10 a.m. The alarm company said they saw a man taking cardboard bails from behind the store and loading them into a semi-trailer, police said. Officers found a man behind the store, operating a Bobcat machine, who said he was hired by an Indiana-based recycling company to get the bails, according to the report. The man gave police a contact and phone number, but officers got no answer, and the man couldn’t provide a work order, police said. Store staff said the man had not been authorized to take the bails, according to the report. Five bails had been taken worth $200, according to the report. Roger D. Crain, 47, of the 3600 block of 250 W West in Lafayette, Ill., was charged with theft.

Too Fast Turn

Police saw a Nissan Maxima strike a Ford Explorer while making a left turn as the Explorer was driving west on 159th Street through 108th Avenue around 7:55 p.m. Neither drivers were injured, police said. The officer noticed an odor of alcohol from the breath of the Nissan driver, and he failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Jeffrey T. Reynolds, 45, of the 15600 block of Heatherglen Court in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving an uninsured vehicle and disobeying a traffic device.

Family Shopping

Police were called about two adults and three juveniles who were held by security for retail theft at JCPenney around 6:10 p.m. Security said a man and two girls were taking bottles of perfume from displays, according to the report. The girls were then seen removing security tags and placing them in a stroller a woman was pushing, with a young boy in the stroller, according to the report. They all then left the store without paying for the perfume, police said. The bottles of perfume are worth $340. Jose R. Murillo, 31, of the 6000 block of West 99th Street in Oak Lawn, and Yanet Cardoso, 31, of the 8600 block of South McVicker Drive in Burbank, were each charged with retail theft.

Drinks then Happy Hour

Police were called about a one-car accident in a parking lot in the 16100 block of LaGrange Road around 3:30 p.m. A car drove off the road, yet the driver walked away from the accident and into a nearby restaurant, police said. Police caught up with paramedics on the scene who walked the woman out of the restaurant, and found a car with heavy front-end damage, according to the report. The woman told police she had “hit a curb,” which later turned out to be a center median strip, according to the report. The woman was slurring her speech, and an officer could smell a moderate odor of alcohol from her breath, police said. She later failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Julie A. Shea, 49, of the 8800 block of 140th Street in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured vehicle and improper lane use.

SATURDAY, JAN. 28

Clothing Bag

Police were called about a retail theft at Express around 3:45 p.m. Store security said a man wearing a brown hooded jacket and a brown skull cap was responsible, police said. A man matching the description boarded a Pace bus from the Sears upper area, and an officer found him, police said. Security said the man was seen putting store merchandise into a shopping bag before leaving the store without paying, and then heading to the store Pink, according to the report. He was then seen removing security tags from clothing in Pink before leaving that store without paying, police said. The items are worth $312.80. Bruce A. Taylor, 50, of the 2900 block of Chatham Lane in Rockford, was charged with retail theft.

THURSDAY, JAN. 26

Drinking, Mouthing

Police were alerted about a burglary alarm going off at a home in the 11800 block of Shade Cove Court around 1:40 a.m. An officer saw a man walking near the area and caught up with him in the 15100 block of Alpine Drive, police said. The man was swaying, spoke with heavily slurred speech and smelled of alcohol, according to the report. The man told police he had been in a fight and was walking home, police said. An officer earlier saw footprints from the residence where the alarm was tripped, going toward Alpine Drive, according to the report. While at the police station, the man cursed at police officers, flipped them off and directed racial slurs at them, according to the report. Zoraiz Mirza, 18, of the 18100 block of Autumn Ridge Drive in Orland Park, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor and pedestrian under the influence of alcohol.
