Orland Park Police Blotter: Fish Oil, Cell Phone Thefts

Orland Park police reports, Dec. 1-10

MONDAY, DEC. 10

Fish Oil Grab

Police were called to Whole Foods about a retail theft around 7:45 p.m. Security said a man was seen hiding two containers of fish oil pills in his sleeves before leaving the store without paying, police said. The pills are worth $103.98, according to the report. Spiro K. Manasses, 66, of the 9400 block of 86th Court in Hickory Hills, was charged with retail theft.

Fender Bent

Police were called about a possible accident near 158th Street and Harlem Avenue around 3:30 a.m. A car was found with front end damage, and a man and woman were walking near the car, police said. The woman was identified as the driver, police smelled alcohol on her breath and she failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Police saw marks on a nearby median strip that looked consistent with the damage on the woman’s car, according to the report. Anne M. Osika, 35, of the 16600 block of South 88th Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper turning and driving an uninsured vehicle.

Fourth Time

Police pulled over a car for squealing its tires and crossing over lane lines in the 14700 block of 82nd Avenue around 2:40 a.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol, his eyes were red and watery and his face was flushed, police said. Officers found that his license had been revoked and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Felony charges were placed against him for driving under the influence on a revoked license, and for this being his fourth DUI charge, according to the report. Jack S. Odell, 61, of the 15800 block of Orlan Brook Drive in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured vehicle, improper lane use, illegal squealing of tires, driving with a revoked license and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence.

THURSDAY, DEC. 6

Scuffle, Drive Away

Police were called about two people fighting in the street in the 11300 block of Brook Crossing Court around 10:15 p.m., and found the two men described by the caller on scene. One man said the other had been drinking, and accosted him before driving away from a different location, when he was called in as an intoxicated driver, according to the report. The man followed the accused man to the Brook Crossing location and the two fought briefly, police said. Officers smelled alcohol on the breath of the accused man, and he refused to take field sobriety tests, police said. Michael J. Walsh, 52, of the 17300 block of Brook Crossing Court in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

SATURDAY, DEC. 1

Stolen Phone

Police were called about a retail theft at Walgreens, 7690 159th St., around 12:55 a.m. Store staff said a man was seen standing around the cell phone area, and was also seen pulling on a cell phone container before leaving the store, according to the report. He then reentered the store, walked again toward the cell phone area and then left again, when staff noticed a cell phone was missing from its packaging, police said. The phone was recovered by police from his vehicle’s center console after they arrived, according to the report. Eric R. Coleman, 21, of the 7600 block of 159th Place in Tinley Park, was charged with retail theft.
