Orland Park Police Blotter: Mall Store Employee Caught Stealing $100 Cash

Orland Park police reports, Dec.16-17

SATURDAY, DEC. 17

Weaving DUI

Heather A. Michalec, 27, of the 9200 block of Magnolia Avenue in Mokena, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane use and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. Police said they stopped Michael’s car in the 15500 block of LaGrange Road around 11:30 p.m. after an anonymous caller described a car weaving between lanes. She refused a Breathalyzer but failed field sobriety tests, according to police.

Retail Theft

Martha C. Orozco, 42, of the 3800 block of 57th Place in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Security told police that a woman later identified as Orozco left a department store around 7:30 p.m. without paying for clothing and household items totaling $251, police said. She was stopped outside the store, according to the report.

Employee Theft

Derrica A. Herron, 20, of the 400 block Victoria Circle in Park Forest, was charged with theft. Security told police that Herron, an employee at a department store, was caught pocketing $100 out of a cash register, police said. Over the last several weeks, the store was approximately $700 short on its receipts, according to the report. 

Two to a Blunt

Patrick Zalesko, 18, of the 8400 block of Rob Roy Drive in Orland Park, and James F. Navarro, 18, of the 8500 block of Lakeside Drive in Tinley Park, were each charged with possession of cannabis. Police said they stopped Zalesko’s car in the 15700 block of 80th Avenue around 4:15 a.m. for driving without headlights, according to the report. An officer smelled burnt marijuana after approaching the car, and found a blunt in the car’s ashtray, according to police.

Zalesko was also charged with driving without headlights.

Two to Two Bags

Brandon W. Ardisson, 20, of the 12900 block of Mill Drive East in Palos Park, and Ashley N. Szenda, 20, of the 15100 block of West Avenue in Orland Park, were each charged with possession of cannabis. Police said they approached a running car outside Szenda’s home around 2:30 a.m. and found two bags of marijuana near both passengers.

Ardisson was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after claiming ownership of a pipe, police said.

FRIDAY, DEC. 16

Minor Possession of Alcohol

Cole T. Nelson, 20, of the 13700 block of 82nd Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor. Police said they stopped Nelson’s car in the 15700 block of 71st Court around 3:30 p.m. for driving without a front license plate, and found both empty and unopened cans of beer in the backseat, according to the report. He was ticketed and released on scene since there was no indication that he had drank those beers before getting behind the wheel, police said.
