Orland Park Police Blotter: Man Wrestles Security After Stealing Hats

TUESDAY, JUNE 5

Domestic Battery

Police were called to the 14500 block of West Avenue about a possible stolen vehicle around 6:35 p.m. A woman there said a car she drives was parked at the 143rd Street Metra Station, and was missing when she returned, police said. A man who also lives at the residence also owns the car, and at first he said he didn’t know where the car was, but later told police where to find it, according to the report. The woman then told police that the man had pushed her against the wall during an argument about two days prior, and had a visible bruise on her wrist from it, police said. Police left the residence but returned about 90 minutes later after getting another call that the man struck the woman, according to the report. Police found scratches on the woman’s forearms, which she said happened after they argued about items missing from the car, police said. Joseph A. Wydra, 60, of the 14500 block of West Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with domestic battery.

Dressing Room Ruse

Police were called about a retail theft at Macy’s around 3:45 p.m. Security said a woman was seen taking 15 items into a dressing room, while carrying a thin purse, according to the report. She left the dressing room with only four items, which she put back on a shelf, and six items were left behind in the dressing room, police said. Security found the other five items in her purse, after she left the store without paying, according to the report. Danielle R. Augello, 21, of the 14600 block of Aston Way in Lockport, was charged with retail theft.

Tag and Bag

Police were called about a retail theft at Macy’s around 7:55 p.m. Security said a woman was seen taking tags off items before placing them in her purse and leaving the store without paying, police said. Taquirah B. Thompson, 19, of the 14300 block of Dobson Avenue in Dolton, was charged with retail theft.

FRIDAY, MAY 25

Grab, Punch, Wrestle

Police were called about a retail theft at Macy’s around 8:40 p.m. Security said a man was seen taking Nautica caps and placing them in the front of his pants before leaving the store without paying, when he was approached by security, according to the report. The man started punching at the guard and the two wrestled to the ground, leaving the guard with cuts to his hand and an injured knee, police said. Warrants were found for the man’s arrest. Terrel Grigsby, 39, of the 1000 block of Lois Place in Joliet, was charged with robbery and arrested on a Cook County warrant for retail theft, as well as a DuPage County failure-to-appear warrant for driving with a suspended license.

THURSDAY, MAY 24

Stuff Purse and Run

Police assisting security at Orland Square Mall were notified about a retail theft at Hollister around 2:15 p.m. Security said two women were seen taking clothing, concealed them in their purses and left the store without paying, police said. The women ran down an escalator when told to stop by police, and led officers on a foot chase outside the mall before they were stopped, according to the report. Ruby D. Bowles, 27, of the 14400 block of Parnell Avenue in Riverdale, and Jasmine T. Murphy, 25, of the 10100 block of South Aberdeen Street in Chicago, were each charged with retail theft and obstructing a peace officer.
