WEDNESDAY, FEB. 29

Stuck in a Ditch

Police were called to help a car stuck in a ditch in the 15100 block of 82nd Avenue around 8:10 p.m. The driver stepped out of the car when officers arrived and appeared off balance, police said. Police smelled alcohol on his breath and he failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Hector Vargas, 30, of the 5500 block of South California Avenue, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper turning and driving an uninsured vehicle.

Marijuana Found

Police pulled over a vehicle for making an improper turn from 82nd Avenue on to 151st Street around 7:50 p.m. The officer smelled marijuana inside the vehicle, and called in for a K9, according to the report. The dog indicated something might be in the trunk, and the officer found 35.5 grams of marijuana, baggies and a digital scale, according to the report. Police also found $398 in cash, which was taken in as evidence, police said. Christopher A. Hanningan, 20, of the 8100 block of Blarney Road in Tinley Park, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Warrant Arrest

Jeanne M. Johnson, 47, of the 17700 block of Abigail Lane was arrested on a Will County warrant for driving under the influence. She was found at her home around 6:50 p.m.

THURSDAY, FEB. 23

Pants Grab, Bad Turn

Police were called about a possible retail theft at The Gap around 8:30 p.m. Store security said the woman responsible was seen going into H & M, while carrying an Abercrombie and Fitch bag, and hid the bag when security came to the store, police said. She was then seen taking security sensors off of yoga pants, before going into another store and taking sensors off two pairs of jeans, causing tears in both, according to the report. The woman got into the passenger side of a car, and it drove away, but was pulled over after it was seen making a left turn from the right lane onto LaGrange Road, and cutting off cars in the left turn lane, police said. Officers found store merchandise in the Abercrombie and Fitch bag, and the woman admitted to stealing items, police said. Danielle N. Maxwell, 22, of the 5400 block of South Morgan Street in Chicago, was charged with theft and criminal damage to property. Chikeva M. Cherry, 30, of the 12500 block of South Laflin Street in Calumet Park, was charged with driving without a valid license, failure to signal and driving an uninsured vehicle.
