Orland Park Police Blotter: Men Hide $330 Worth of DVDs in Waist Bands

Waist Not Want Not

Police were called about a retail theft at Target around 5:25 p.m. Store security told police that two men were seen stealing DVDs, and fled the parking lot in a black GMC SUV, according the report. The men were seen circling the DVD section and randomly selecting DVDs, before stuffing them in their pants waistbands and leaving the store, police said. An SUV matching the description was found and pulled over in the 15300 block of LaGrange Road. Police found 14 DVDs worth $331.39, according to the report. Adam J. Miller, 21, of the 12700 block of ­­Loveland Avenue in Alsip, and Anthony J. Grieco, 18, of the 8200 block of Arrowhead Lane in Orland Park, were each charged with retail theft.

Purse Stuff

Police were called about a woman suspected of retail theft at H & M in Orland Square Mall around 6:50 p.m. Security said a woman was seen taking clothing off of racks and placing them in her purse, before leaving the store without paying, police said. The items are worth $77.80, according to the report. Brittany N. Terry, 20, of the 200 block of 121st Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft.

Dressing Room Houdini

Police were called about a woman held by store security for retail theft at JCPenney in Orland Square Mall around 5:50 p.m. Store security told police the woman was seen taking clothing off racks, going into a fitting room and exiting with fewer items than she entered with, according to the report. The woman bought the items she carried out of the fitting room and left the store, police said. Store security then stopped her and found other items that weren’t paid for, according to the report. The items are worth $71.96. Sandy A. Luna-Hernandez, 23, of the 9100 block of Lincoln Court in Orland Park, was charged with retail theft.

Median Over

An officer heard squealing tires while he was parked at the Orland Plaza parking lot, around 3:15 a.m. The car responsible was seen driving west in the 9600 block of 143rd Street on the concrete median in the construction area, police said. The car was seen drifting between lanes when it was pulled over, police said. The officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath and the driver failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Matthew A. Coates, 24, of the 9800 block El Cameno Lane in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal squealing of tires and improper lane use.

Smokey Truck

Police saw a red truck driving east on 183rd Street and Wolf Road without a rear registration light and was pulled over around 1:45 a.m. The officer smelled burnt marijuana coming out of the vehicle, and the driver and passenger said they were lost, police said.  The officer found marijuana, a bong, a glass pipe and a gas mask inside the truck, according to the report. Mark Swanson, 18, of the 16300 block of Boardwalk Terrace in Orland Hills, and Michael F. Weiner, 18, of the 8800 block of Timber Court in Tinley Park, were each cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
