Knife Pulled to Assuage Assault

Robert E. Surin, 35, of the 9000 block of Croydon Lane in Orland Park, was charged with assault. Witnesses told police that just after midnight, Surin tried head-butting a man in his backyard, and threw a remote controller and a chair, following an argument over a dog, police said. The man pulled a knife on Surin to get him to back off and called police, according to the report.

No Injuries in DUI Rollover Crash

Shernita M. Harris, 30, of the first block of Quincy Street in Riverside, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use and failure to reduce speed to avoid accident. Witnesses told police that Harris’ car, a red Buick Lacrosse, struck the median near 147th Street and LaGrange Road and rolled over, according to the report. No one was hit in the process and Harris was not reported injured, police said. She did, however, smell of alcohol, failed field sobriety tests and showed alcohol in her system on a Breathalyzer test, police said.

Driving with Booze Mug

Stephen D. Peters, 44, no address released, was charged with driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol and speeding. Police said they stopped Peters in the 8400 block of 159th Street around 3:15 a.m. for speeding and swerving. When asked to perform field sobriety tests, Peters said that his bad eyes, bad legs, bad lungs and recent ingestion of NyQuil would prevent him, according to the report. He was arrested for smelling of alcohol and for the large plastic mug containing alcohol found on the car floor, police said.

Synthetic Marijuana

Three men were charged with possession of cannabis after officers stopped their car in the 15100 block of LaGrange Road around 5 p.m. and allegedly found three bags of synthetic marijuana.

John W. Vesvardes, 19, of the 6800 block of 156th Street in Oak Forest; Fabian M. Lopez, 20, of the 7900 block of 164th Place in Tinley Park; and Kevin K. Schultz, 19, of the 16400 block of Ironwood Drive in Tinley Park, were issued citations and released.

Vesvardes, a passenger, was also cited with failure to wear seatbelt.

The driver was released without charges.

Retail Theft

Nicholas E. Zsuppon, 28, of the 900 block of Belle Plaine Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Security told police that Zsuppon left a technology store around 3:15 p.m. without paying for $350 wireless speaker system, according to the report.
