Orland Park Police Blotter: Stolen Windbreakers and a Rollover Car Accident

Orland Park police reports: Feb. 20-28

TUESDAY, FEB. 28

Walking Windbreakers

Police were called about a retail theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods around 2:35 p.m. Store security said two women were seen taking North Face coats and leaving without paying, before getting into a white Chevy and driving away, according to the report. Police pulled over the Chevy in the 14700 block of LaGrange Road, and store security identified the driver and passenger as the two seen taking coats, police said. Officers found 10 North Face jackets in the car worth a total of $290. Patricia M. Rigsby, 21, of the 8200 block of South Ingleside Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. A juvenile girl was released to her parents.

Driveway Sprint

Police started following a vehicle after it made a wide right turn onto 179th Street from Wolf Road, and came close to striking the squad car, around 1:55 a.m. The officer then had to drive over 80 mph in a 45 mph zone, but still wasn’t catching up to the car, and the car didn’t slow down when the officer turned on the emergency lights, police said. The car pulled into a driveway on Doe Lane, and the driver then stepped out and ran toward the front door, leaving the car running, driver door open and headlights on, police said.  The driver said he was hurrying to get home because he was tired, and did not see the police car’s warning lights behind him, according to the report. He passed field sobriety tests, police said. Alexander A. Aloia, 25, of the 17200 block of Doe Lane in Orland Park, was charged with reckless driving, speeding 40 mph over the limit, improper turning at an intersection and driving an uninsured vehicle.

Rollover Crash

Police were called about a rollover vehicle accident where one person was trapped around 6:30 p.m. in the 14800 block of Wolf Road. Police found that four vehicles were involved in the accident, according to the report. According to witnesses, a Mazda car was driving south on Wolf Road and couldn’t stop soon enough to avoid striking a Toyota van, leading it to roll over “several times,” police said. The Mazda’s front end was heavily crumpled and the driver needed to be pulled out of the passenger side, police said. The Toyota driver was extricated from the van, and hospital staff later told police he was stable, according to the report. Police and paramedics smelled alcohol on the breath of the Mazda driver, though he declined to take a Breathalyzer test, police said. David P. Wantroba, 43, of the 15700 block of 114th Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Cardboard Grab

Police were called about three men loading cardboard bales into a truck behind Target around 1:20 a.m. Police found the men and saw three bales had been placed inside a parked truck, according to the report. All three men admitted they didn’t have permission to take the bales, and were hoping to get them recycled for money, police said. The bales are worth $50 each, according to the report. Jose D. Centeno, 21, of the 7300 block of West 62nd Street in Summit; Neptalin H. Carretero, 33, of the 7300 block of West 62nd Street in Summit and Juan L. Perez, 32, of the 5800 block of West 55th Street in Chicago, were each charged with theft.

TUESDAY, FEB. 21

Warrant Arrest

Roy J. Kmak, 40, of the 17300 block of Avon Lane in Tinley Park, was arrested on a warrant for tampering with a motor vehicle. He turned himself in to the Orland Park Police Department around 6:35 a.m.

Warrant Arrest

Elvin L. McMillian, 42, of the 5400 block of Union Street in Chicago, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from 1997 for criminal trespass to a motor vehicle. He turned himself in to the Orland Park Police Department around 6:40 a.m.

FRIDAY, FEB 17

Warrant Arrest

Peter Sousan, 24, of the 8300 block of Sunset Ridge Court in Orland Park was arrested on warrants for theft and criminal trespass to a vehicle. He was arrested at his residence around 2:25 p.m.
