Orland Park Police Blotter: Theft While Possessing Drugs

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 13

DUI, Speeding

Police pulled over a car for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone in the 7500 block of 159th Street around 1 a.m. The driver did not have his license on him, his speech was slurred, his breath smelled like alcohol and he didn’t know the time, police said. Field sobriety tests were conducted, but the results were not listed, according to the report. Darrell T. Dranter, 40, of the 8900 block of 169th Street in Orland Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving without a license and speeding.

Formula Grab

Police were called to Target about a retail theft around 4:20 p.m. Security said a man was seen putting containers of baby formula into empty shopping bags, organizing the shelves to look like nothing was taken and then leaving the store without paying for the formula, worth a total of $183.92, police said. Once in police custody, 12 prescription pills were found on him, for which he did not have a prescription, police said. Anthony T. Scarpetti, 30, of the 16400 block of Grant Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Stuffed Purse

Police were called about a retail theft at Kohl’s around 4 p.m. Security said a woman was seen balling up mens’ shirts and placing them in her purse, before entering a fitting room with undergarments that were not visible when she left the room, police said. She then selected two items, paid for them and left the store, police said. Security found $407.99 worth of unpaid merchandise on her, and police later found marijuana inside her car, according to the report. Donna M. Podeest, 53, of the 28900 block of Gougar Road in Manhattan, Ill., was charged with retail theft and possession of marijuana.
