Orland Park Police Blotter: Theft With Chase, Ring On a Finger and ‘Going to Get a Gift Card’

Orland Park police reports: Sept. 6-12

FRIDAY, SEPT. 12

Purse Stuff Chase

Police were called about a retail theft in progress at Macy’s around 1:20 p.m., where a woman was running north in the parking lot away from security. Security said the woman was seen selecting several items from a display, and then walking into a dressing room, police said. When she left the dressing room, security said her purse looked noticeably more full than when she entered, according to the report. The woman then left the store without paying, police said. The woman ran when security tried to stop her, and dumped the taken items in a bush near the parking lot, police said. The items are worth $113.90, police said. Ashlie Batchelor, 20, of the 47000 block of Hickory Creek Drive in University Park, was charged with retail theft.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 9

Warrant Arrest

Police were called to the Oak Forest Police Department around 12:35 a.m. about a man wanted on an Orland Park warrant issued on April 24, 2012 with a $200,000 bail. Juan C. Cruz-Hernandez, 26, of the 5000 block of 159th Street in Oak Forest was arrested on a warrant for driving under the influence.

MONDAY, SEPT. 8

Put a Ring on It

Police were called about a retail theft at JCPenney around 12:25 p.m. Security said a woman pushing a stroller was seen taking a ring out of a jewelry box and placing it on her finger, before gathered other store items and entering a dressing room, police said. She then exited the store without paying for items, according to the report. Security found $325 worth of merchandise in her purse, in a store bag, in the stroller and on her finger, according to the report. Sahar Haddad, 35, of the 15400 block of Badger Lane in Homer Glen, was charged with felony retail theft.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 6

Gift Card

Police were called about a retail theft in progress at JCPenney around 11 a.m. Security said two women were seen taking tags off of clothing, concealing the items in a purse, and left the store without paying, police said. One woman said she was going back to her car to get a gift card, according to the report. Both women had previous theft incidents on their records, according to the report. The items are worth $63, according to the report. Janet L. Cernetich, 39, of the 400 block of Kungs Way in Joliet, and Melanie J. Pappas, 35, of the 500 block of Pasadena Avenue in Crest Hill, were each charged with felony retail theft.
