Orland Park Police Blotter: Thefts Galore at the Icing

Orland Park police reports: Dec. 7-11

SUNDAY, DEC. 11

Double Bag

Police were called about a retail theft at the Icing in Orland Square Mall around 2:40 p.m. An employee said a woman was seen taking a handbag from a display and placing it into her purse before leaving the store without paying, according to the report. Lauren M. Baker, 18, of the 5700 block of Edward Drive in Oak Forest, was cited with retail theft.

Bag Ruse

Police were called about a retail theft at Sears around 6:35 p.m. Store security said two women and a man were seen taking displayed items, placing them in shopping bags they brought with them into the store and leaving the store without paying, according to the report. The items are worth $249.94. Maximo Zamora, 27, and Irma Zamora, 26, both of the 12500 block of Western Avenue in Blue Island, as well as Adriana Magana, 34, of the 6200 block of South Mozart Street in Chicago, were each charged with retail theft.

SATURDAY, DEC. 10

Draped Perfume

Police were called to Sears about a retail theft around 1 p.m. Store security said a woman was seeing taking a bottle of perfume out of its box, and placing it under clothing items and her purse in a shopping cart, according to the report. She then was seen leaving the store after paying for some items, but not the perfume, police said. Security recovered a few other unpaid items, according to the report. The woman said she wanted to make a phone call but couldn’t get reception in the store, and intended to pay for the items, according to the report. The items are worth $296.95. Lisa J. Vasil, 48, of the 18300 block of Buckthorn Court in Tinley Park, was charged with retail theft.

Purse Ruse

Police were called about a retail theft at the Icing in Orland Square Mall around 9 p.m. An employee said a woman was seen placing merchandise into a basket, but took some items in her hand and later placed them in her purse, according to the report. The woman paid for the items in the basket, but not those in her purse, and she left the store, police said. The items are worth $65. Brittanie D. Russell, 18, of the 200 block of Ian Avenue in New Lenox, was cited with retail theft.

FRIDAY, DEC. 9

Missing Plow

An Orland Park man reported a snowplow he left at the end of his driveway was missing. His neighbors saw it on Dec. 6. The plow attachment is red and black with attached lights.

Wrong Way

Police pulled over a car after it turned onto 143rd Street driving east while in the westbound lane near LaGrange Road around 1:35 a.m., and then veered around the concrete median to drive east in the correct lane. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Daniel E. Montgomery, 33, of the 8900 block of Bilboa Street in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, driving without a license and improper lane use.

THURSDAY, DEC. 8

Warrant Arrest

A woman went to the around 7 p.m. to drop off insurance information on a car involved in a traffic accident. A warrant was found for the woman’s arrest in the process, police said. Lorraine M. Farano, 42, of the 7700 block of 165th Place in Tinley Park, was arrested on a warrant for a conditional release violation. She posted bail and was released.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 7

Hidden Rings

Police were called about a retail theft at the Icing in Orland Square Mall around 6:40 p.m. An employee said a woman was seen taking two sets of earrings and a ring from the displays, concealing them in her hand with a coat draped over the arm, and leaving the store without paying, according to the report. The items are worth $26. Naile Ibrahimi, 59, of the 15700 block of Ravinia Avenue in Orland Park, was cited with retail theft.
