THURSDAY, SEPT. 8

Store Items Stashed in Purse

Police were called to a store in Orland Square Mall about a retail theft around 4:25 p.m. Store security said a woman was seen concealing store items in a large purse and leaving the store without paying, according to the report. Tags from some of the items were found in a bathroom garbage can, police said. Theresa Wilson, 19, of the 7500 block of South Eberhart Drive in Chicago, was charged with retail theft.

Cable Theft

Anthony M. Mastandrea, 19, of the 900 block of Chatfield Road in New Lenox, was cited with retail theft. Police were called to a store in the 15800 block of LaGrange Road about a retail theft. Store security said Mastandrea took a connection cable out of the packaging, put it in his pocket and walked past the register without paying.

Minors with Beer

Police pulled over a vehicle for speeding near 143rd Street and 108th Avenue around 1:15 a.m. The officer smelled alcohol in the vehicle but not on the driver’s breath, police said. Two cans of beer were found in the car partially spilled, and a glass marijuana pipe was found, according to the report. The driver, Noah J. Shroats, 18, of the 17500 block of Capistrano Lane in Orland Park, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor. The passengers, Joshua R. Rachner, 18, of the 15700 block of 115th Avenue in Orland Park, and Martynas Sadzevicius, 18, of the 14600 block of Oakley Avenue in Orland Park, each was cited for possession of alcohol by a minor.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 4

Humidifier Heist

Police were called to a store in the 13300 block of Southwest Highway about a retail theft around 8:15 a.m. Store surveillance video showed a man taking four humidifiers, a container of Freon gas and a tray of pipe fittings without paying, according to the report. Another video taken the next day showed the same man taking scrap copper pipe from the business, also without paying, police said. Steven J. Michalik, 35, of the 1300 block of Oakmont Drive in Glendale Heights, was charged with felony retail theft.  

FRIDAY, SEPT. 2

Traveling Pants

Police were called about a retail theft at a store in Orland Square Mall around 2:30 p.m. Store security said a woman took a pair of pants from a display, placed them in her bag and left the store without paying. Kendra L. Eggleston, 18, of the 6800 block of Calumet Avenue in Chicago, was cited with retail theft.
