Orland Park Police Blotter: Woman Tries Stealing Over $450 of Store Merchandise

THURSDAY, DEC. 22

Traveling Jeans

Police were called about a woman held for retail theft at JCPenney around 1:45 p.m. Security said the woman was seen placing store items into plastic bags she brought with her into the store, according to the report. She then took three pairs of jeans and walked into a dressing room, and later left the room with only one pair of jeans visible, according to the report. She put that pair back on display, and then left the store without paying for the items found, police said. The items are worth $454.49. Kaylyn M. Rios, 21, of the 8200 block of Loomis Boulevard in Chicago, was charged with retail theft.

Warrant Arrest

Orland Park police were called by Orland Hills police about a man found with an active Orland Park warrant behind Walmart around 10:50 a.m. Orland Hills police ran a check on a man found in a car parked behind the store, and found the warrant, according to the report. John F. Green, 52, of the 2400 block of Canal Street in Blue Island, was arrested on an outstanding 1998 warrant for driving with a revoked license.

Trash Stash

Police were called about a retail theft at Sears in Orland Square Mall around 1 p.m. Store security said a man was seen taking two bottles of cologne and walked into the men’s bathroom, police said. He left the bathroom without the cologne in plain view and walked out of the store without paying for the items, police said. Security found the cologne packaging in the bathroom trash, according to the report. The cologne bottles are worth $96.50. Chetankumar A. Patel, 25, of the 7100 block of Laverne Lane in Tinley Park, was cited with retail theft.

TUESDAY, DEC. 6

No Belt

Police pulled over a car after the driver was seen not wearing a seat belt near 152nd Street and Harlem Avenue around 9:45 p.m. The officer smelled marijuana inside the vehicle, and one of the passengers handed over a plastic bag with marijuana inside and a pipe, according to the report. Sydney M. Locicero, 20, of the 17200 block of 69th Avenue in Tinley Park, was cited with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

SATURDAY, DEC. 3

Stop and Squeal

Police pulled over a car after it made an abrupt stop before speeding away and squealing its tires, in the 11300 block of 143rd Street around 3:35 a.m. The car was missing a front license plate, police said. The driver slurred his speech and failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Michal Smazenka, 33, of the 4100 block of Oakdale Street in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal squealing of tires and driving without a front license plate.
