Man Found Sleeping at Wheel of Bloody, Damaged Car

Kevin J. Coffey, 23, of the 9000 block of 169th Street in Orland Hills, was charged with driving under the influence, unlawful damage to highway and failure to give information. Police said they found Coffey asleep behind the wheel of his car around 9:45 p.m. in 9200 block of 170th Street, a block away from his home.

Police said they found damage to the car's front and side, and blood just below a shattered passenger window. Coffey told police his friend had thrown a brick through his window outside a bar in Joliet. He said he then hit something on the ride home, though he couldn’t remember what.

Police later determined Coffey had struck a sign at the corner of 169th Place and Hobart Avenue and cut his hand on the shards of glass.

Police Blotter information is provided by law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
