Police Blotter: Broken Mirrors; Drunk Drive-Thru Fisticuffs

Orland Park police reports, June 4-12

SUNDAY, JUNE 12

Retail Theft

Police were called around 3:35 p.m. regarding a retail theft from Claire's in Orland Square Mall. According to the report, Joseph D. Nowak, 20, of the 9400 block of Fox Run Court in Frankfort, and a juvenile were each cited for retail theft. Security told police they saw the two young men place one item each in their pockets and leave the store. Nowak was released at the scene and the juvenile was turned over to the custody of his father. They are due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center July 12.

Drive-Thru Throw Down

Police were called to White Castle, 15801 Harlem Ave., regarding a fight in the drive-thru around 3:20 a.m. According to the report, Steven B. Schemeski, 24, of the 6900 block of Westview Drive in Oak Forest, and a man were waiting in the drive-thru. The man left the car and went inside to order food. A witness then told the man that the driver, Schemeski, appeared to be asleep at the wheel, according to the report. The man then ran outside and was confronted by a man and woman. An employee said that he did not hear what caused the fight, but saw the couple attacking the man, according to the report. The two attackers left the scene, police said. Schemeski was later charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drug equipment and possession of cannabis. Schemeski was released on bond pending a Bridgeview court date.

Southbound on a Northbound Road

Ravi Patel, 39, of the first block of East Huron Road in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. An officer on patrol at around 2:45 a.m. saw Patel make an illegal turn on to LaGrange Road from 159th Street, according to the report. Patel was then facing south in the northbound lane, police said. Patel later failed sobriety tests. He was released on bond pending a July 1 Bridgeview court date.

Theft Alleged

Kristian C. Hogan, 18, of the 12300 block of South LaSalle Street in Chicago, along with two female juveniles, were charged with retail theft. According to the report, an officer in the Orland Square Mall parking lot saw one of the juveniles with a shopping bag walk to Hogan's car around 5 p.m. Five minutes later, another juvenile arrived and both got into the car. They removed items from the bags and then went back into the mall with the same bags, police said. The same chain of actions happened one additional time, according to the report. Police later pulled over Hogan at 159th Street and 94th Avenue. Hogan was released on bond, pending a July 1 Bridgeview court date. The two juveniles were released to their mothers and referred to the Orland Township diversion program.

THURSDAY, JUNE 9

Blown Stop Sign Finds Warrant

John P. Nestor, 33, of the 18100 block of Meyer Drive in Tinley Park, was arrested on an in-state warrant. Nestor was stopped by police after violating a restricted road sign due to the 15800 block of Ravinia Drive being flooded out at around 11:20 a.m. Nestor had a warrant from 2006 on a suspended license charge, police said. He was released on bond pending an August 1 Bridgeview court date.

SATURDAY, JUNE 4

Going to the Dentist and Getting Mirrors Pulled

Police were called to Universal Dental, 8752 W. 159th St., because an employee saw a man damaging mirrors around 9 a.m. Police later charged Juan M. Alcantar, 22, of the 15600 block of Bramblewood Drive in Oak Forest, with criminal damage to property. Alcantar turned himself into police after being implicated by the car's owner, police said.
