Police Blotter: Dog Left in Hot Car, Retail Thefts

Orland Park police reports, Aug. 8-11

THURSDAY, AUG. 11

Theft Express

Dajauna F. Young, 21, of the 5300 block of South Carpenter in Chicago, and Shannon N. Temple, 27, of the 200 block of West 118th Street in Chicago, were both charged with retail theft. Loss prevention at Express, 724 Orland Square Dr., saw Temple and Young place clothing items into bags they had carried in to the store and then saw them leave the store around 5:30 p.m. without paying for the items, police said. Officers saw Temple and Young go to their car, empty the bags, and enter the Macy's store, according to the report. Temple and Young left the Macy's and were soon approached by the officers, one of whom smelled cannabis coming from the car. Young and Temple admitted to stealing items from Express and Macy's, police said. Young also admitted to having cannabis in the center console, and she was cited for the cannabis, police said. Macy's loss prevention told officers that Temple and Young each stole a pair of sunglasses.

Energy Theft

Anthony L. James, 23, of the 16000 block of Prarie Avenue in South Holland, and Julian C. Wilson, 20, of the 100 block of West 157th Street in South Holland, were cited for retail theft. An employee of Kay Jewelers reported seeing James and Wilson take one bracelet from the Energy Excell kiosk at 288 Orland Square Dr. and walk away in the mall around 4 p.m. The Kay employee was watching the kiosk while the owner was in the restroom. The two men were eventually caught by Orland Park police and mall security after working their way deeper into the mall. The men were released at the scene and banned from the mall for a year.

Cannabis and Drinking

Quinn T. McDonald, 20, of the 7900 block of 165th Place in Tinley Park, was cited for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, and underage consumption of alcohol, and Justin D. Stroube, 20, of the 8000 block of Alexandria Drive in Tinley Park, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor. An officer on patrol at the intersection of Sussex and Sherwood Drives saw a car parked at the side of Sussex Drive with two men inside at 12:15 a.m., and the officer saw an open box of beer. Another officer saw a glass pipe full of cannabis in the center console. A search of the car found two more glass pipes, a "one hitter" pipe, a digital scale, and a black container containing cannabis residue, police said.

Warrant

James D. Preston, 27, of the 15200 block of Coventry Court, turned himself in to police around 7 a.m. on a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued Apr. 4 on a suspended license arrest in Will County. Preston was later released on bond.

Theft from Target

Becky L. Pluister, 46, of the 7200 block of 114th Street in Worth, was charged with theft. Loss prevention at Target had observed on video surveillance Pluister taking nine gift cards, between July 10 and Aug. 6, worth a total of $940.47, police said. Pluister admitted to the thefts and was released on bond.

MONDAY, AUG. 8

Dog Left in Hot Car

Terri L. Peterson, 46, of the first block of Norman Avenue in Kankakee, was cited for confining an animal in a car. A concerned citizen called police to JoAnn Fabrics, 15752 LaGrange Rd, at 11 a.m. about a dog in the car. The officer saw that the windows were down only a quarter of the way and a temperature reading showed it was 91 degrees in the car.

DUI

Edgar Dejesus-Perez, 21, of the 8600 block of Shagbark Lane in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, and driving without insurance. Officers on patrol in the 7600 block of West 151st Street saw Dejesus-Perez swerve several times around 4:40 p.m., according to the report, and the officer smelled alcohol on Dejesus-Perez's breath. Dejesus-Perez later failed field sobriety tests, according to the report.
