Police Blotter: DUI with Kid in Car; Gas Station Theft

SUNDAY, JULY 24
DUI on LaGrange, with Child in Back Seat
John J. Berry, 40, of Sauk Village, was charged at 1:57 a.m. with aggravated DUI, driving with a suspended driver’s license (for prior DUI), DUI, endangering the life of a child under 18, disobeying a traffic control light, improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
After pulling over Berry’s car in the 16300 block of LaGrange, officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol, and Berry said he had two beers and that no one else was in the vehicle, according to the report. He then said his 10-year-old stepson was in the back seat, police said. The minor was later picked up by his biological mother at the police station.

SATURDAY, JULY 23
Traffic Stop and Possession Charges
Ricardo Medina, 18, of the 1100 block of Autumn Ridge Drive, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage-violating the median at 2:05 a.m. After being pulled over, Medina told police there was a grinder and glass pipe in the glove box, which officers located, according to the report. He was given an Aug. 9 court date at the Orland Park Civic Center.

Pot Possession
Sean M. Kellogg, 23, of Midlothian, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of prohibited: cannabis at 3:49 p.m. Officers stopped Kellogg and Emmauel Chavez, 22, of Midlothian, in the parking lot of Home Depot, 7300 S. Harlem Ave., and smelled a strong odor of burnt cannabis coming from the vehicle, police said. According to the report, when asked about the smell, Kellogg stated there was a small amount of cannabis in the center console of the vehicle. An officer located the suspected cannabis and made the arrest. Kellogg is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 9 at the Orland Park Civic Center.
FRIDAY, JULY 22
Multiple Charges after Gas Station Theft
Sergio Hermosillo, 18, of Lockport, was charged with driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, improper lane use (two counts), driving without lights when required, illegal transportation of alcohol (driver), alcohol concentration in breath .08, criminal damage to property, assault and retail theft.
According to police, a caller around 2:10 a.m. said a male driver had ripped a nozzle off a gas pump at the Shell Station located at the corner of 143rd Street and Wolf Road. While on the way to the scene, officers saw a black Honda Civic traveling east on 143rd Street that matched the description of the man’s vehicle. The car was pulled over and the officer smelled alcohol on Hermosillo's breath, police said. Hermosillo failed field sobriety tests and refused to give a breath sample at the scene.
The Shell station attendant told police that Hermosillo paid for two bags of chips before leaving the store, returned and asked where his gas was, raised his fist as if to strike the attendant and then took a bag of beef jerky without paying.
Hermosillo is scheduled to appear in court in Bridgeview on Aug. 10.
THURSDAY, JULY 21
Speeding and DUI
Roman R. Rodriguez, 29, of Bolingbrook was charged with speeding, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08 and driving without valid insurance around 3:10 a.m. Police pulled over a silver Honda after tracking the car going 80 mph in the 9700 block of 159th Street, the police report said. Rodriguez could not complete field sobriety tests and failed to give a proper breath sample at the scene, police said. Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 17 in Bridgeview.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 20
Deleting a Retail Transaction
Desiree Rodriguez, 19, of Tinley Park, was charged with retail theft/under-rings. According to the report, Rodriguez was working at Dick's Sporting Goods, 1 Orland Park Place, and rang up $666.84 for a former employee before deleting the transaction on July 17. Loss prevention questioned Rodriguez about the transaction, and she said a former employee had called her telling her she was going to come shopping and didn't want to pay for anything, the report said. Rodriguez was charged on July 20 and given a court date of Aug. 30 at the Bridgeview courthouse.
