SUNDAY, MAY 15

DUI After Getting Stuck in the Mud

Michael R. Johnson, 30, of the 8200 block of Shipston Street in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. According to the report, an officer on patrol saw a car stuck in some mud, struggling to get out. The officer smelled alcohol on the driver's breath. Johnson later failed field sobriety tests and was reported to be over the legal limit of .08. He was released on bond and is due in court in Bridgeview.

DUI-Drugs

Mohammed R. Said, 26, of the 5600 block of West 106th Street in Oak Lawn, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, and Rami Z. Bata, of the 14600th block of Aston Way in Lockport, was arrested and cited for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, police said. According to the report, a patrol officer stopped Said after the officer saw the car going northbound in a southbound traffic lane. After stopping the car, the officer smelled cannabis inside the car. Said, who was driving, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence of drugs. Said was released on bond and is due in court in Bridgeview. Bata is due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center. He was released at the scene and walked to the home of another passenger in the car, just a block from the stop. The other passenger was not charged or cited.

J-Walker Arrested for Suspended License

Jackie L. Walker, 41, of the 1500 block of Linder Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for driving on a suspended license and an in-state warrant with the Cook County Sheriff's Police. According to the report, people inside a restaurant in the 14800th block of LaGrange Road saw a suspected prostitute get into the car with Walker, who was later transported to lockup at the Bridgeview courthouse because he could not post bond for the charge. The warrant was for driving with a suspended license and the bail was set at $30,000. Walker was awaiting a bond hearing in Bridgeview.

Clothing Theft  from Macy's

China L. McLaurin, 23, of the 17800 block of Oakwood Drive in Hazel Crest, was arrested and charged with retail theft, police said. Loss prevention at Macy's in Orland Square Mall saw McLaurin take several clothing items to a fitting room and leave the store. Upon inspection, the clothes were not in the fitting room. McLaurin is due in court in Bridgeview.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 11

Fight Night Outside the Mall

Police were called regarding a fight at Orland Square Mall. They met with a witness who told them he had seen two people fighting near the Macy's entrance. He saw one of the fighters take out a knife and puncture the other fighter's tire. Another individual believed to be involved in the fight called police and said that an unknown male approached him, asking, "Why are you staring at me and talking about my girl?" The man began to charge at him and throw punches, according to the report. Police are searching for a suspect described as a Hispanic male, about 25 years old, approximately 6-foot-2 with a stocky build. He was last seen wearing a red Bulls Derrick Rose jersey.

TUESDAY, MAY 10

DUI Near 143rd and LaGrange

Cynthia M. Torpy, 52, of the 0-100 block of Laughry Lane in Palos Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. According to the report, she was initially pulled over for speeding and having no front license plate. The officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Torpy's breath. Torpy later failed field sobriety tests. She was released on bond and is due in court in Bridgeview.

Accessories Theft from Sears

Marc C. Massey, 22, of the 9400 block of Ash Street in Mokena, was arrested and cited for retail theft, police said. According to the report, a witness saw Massey place a belt into a shoe box and take a pair of sunglasses. He later paid for the shoes and the belt but was seen putting the sunglasses in the front pocket of his pants. He was stopped outside the store by the loss prevention team. He was released at the scene and is due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center.

Necklace Theft from Carson Pirie Scott

Aprice D. Smith, 18, of the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue in Calumet City, was arrested and cited for retail theft, police said. Loss prevention at Carson Pirie Scott reported seeing Smith on security camera remove a necklace, place it in his pocket and leave without paying. Smith is due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center.

Snagging Shades from Sears

Brittany R. Harris, 21, of the 400 block of W. 88th Place in Chicago, was arrested and cited for retail theft, police said. Loss prevention reported seeing Harris put two pairs of sunglasses on top of a stroller and then go into the restroom with the stroller. When she came out, the sunglasses were not seen. Harris was later confronted by the store. She was released at the scene and is due in court at the Orland Park Civic Center.
