Police Blotter: Fireworks, DUIs, Retail Theft

Orland Park police reports, July 1-4

MONDAY, JULY 4

Fireworks Complaint

Abbas A. Sheikh, 33, of the 9400 block of 140th Street in Orland Park, and Mazher A. Khan, 47, of the 3900 block of West 98th Street in Evergreen Park, were cited for possession of fireworks. Police on bike patrol in Evergreen View Park, located off 141st Street, saw a group of people using fireworks in the park around 9:30 p.m, according to the report. An officer saw Sheikh lean over to set off a Roman candle, and another officer saw a large number of spent fireworks around the group, police said. The men were released at the scene.

Drug Paraphernalia

John C. Steiner, 46, of the 15800 block of Terrace Drive in Oak Forest, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. Police on patrol saw Steiner handling clothing items dropped off outside the Goodwill Store at 7400 159th St. just after 1:30 a.m. Steiner had two crack pipes in his pocket, police said. Steiner was later released.

SUNDAY, JULY 3

Possession of Cannabis

Jessica G. Estremera, 23, of the 7500 block of Halesia Court in Orland Park, and Ruben A. Rayo, 21, of the 14200 block of Streamstown Court in Orland Park, both were cited for possession of cannabis. Police on bike patrol saw a car in the 9100 block of 140th Street around 3 p.m. with two people inside. The officers saw the window roll down and a large amount of cannabis smoke came out, according to the report. The officer found a bag of cannabis and three cannabis cigarettes, police said. Estremera and Rayo were released at the scene.

SATURDAY, JULY 2

DUI Over the Limit

Ricardo L. Reillo, 26, of the 16600 block of Churchview Drive in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level over .08 and improper lane usage. An officer on patrol in the 10400 block of 179th Street saw a car swerving and pulled the driver over just before 3 a.m. The officer smelled alcohol on Reillo's breath and Reillo failed sobriety tests, according to the report. Reillo was released on bond.

Felony Retail Theft

Mesha G. Hedrick, 19, of the 8300 block of Morgan Street in Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft and possession of cannabis. Loss prevention at Carson Pirie Scott, 4 Orland Square Drive, saw Hedrick enter a fitting room with several items of clothing just before 4 p.m. An employee stopped Hedrick after she left the store without paying for the items, police said. Hedrick was carrying what was described in the report as a "booster bag," a large bag inside another large bag lined with tinfoil and duct tape, according to the report. Inside the bag, the loss prevention agent found 49 articles of clothing totaling over $1,300. Two small bags of cannabis was found on Hedrick, police said. The Cook County State’s Attorney's Office approved the felony charge. Bail was set July 4.

Retail Theft

Kasaundra S. Burt, 18, of the 4000 block of Indian Hill Drive in Country Club Hills, was cited for retail theft. Loss prevention at Carson Pirie Scott, 4 Orland Square Drive, saw Burt remove a theft prevention device from a shirt and place the shirt in her purse around 12:30 p.m., according to the report. Burt left the store without paying for the shirt, police said. Burt was later released at the scene.

Retail Theft

Renette R. Phillips, 38, of the 8600 block of South Francisco in Chicago, was cited for retail theft. An employee at Claire's, 202 Orland Square Drive, saw Phillips remove a pair of earrings from a display at 8:45 p.m. and place the earrings into her wallet as she was paying for other items, according to the report. Phillips was released at the scene.

FRIDAY, JULY 1

Retail Theft

Alyssa N. Koce, 20, of the 15300 block of Briar Lane in Oak Forest, and Erika M Burklow, 22, of the 15700 block of Shoal Creek Road in Monee, both were cited for retail theft. Loss prevention at JCPenney. 3 Orland Square Drive, saw Koce and Burklow place merchandise into a stroller around 1:30 p.m., according to the report. The women took the stroller into a fitting room and put one of the clothing items on the infant and then left the store without paying, police said. They were released at the scene.
