Police Blotter: One DUI Driver Hits Storefront, Another Hits Car and Van

Orland Park police reports, July 25-Aug. 1

MONDAY, AUG. 1

Disorderly Conduct

Anthony J. Palaggi, 19, of the 17400 block of Chestnut Drive in Tinley Park, was charged with disorderly conduct. A witness reported that Palaggi was arguing with a woman in the parking lot of Carson Furniture Gallery, 66 Orland Square Drive, around 4 p.m. The witness attempted to stop the argument when Palaggi used a racial slur and swore at the witness, police said. Palaggi was released on bond.

Underage Alcohol Citations

Eric M. Espana, 19, of the 13700 block of West Birchwood Drive in Orland Park, Mark A. Naughton, 19, of the 1400 block of South Western Avenue in Park Ridge, Jonathan S. Kunc-Jasinski, 19, of the 300 block of Briarwood Lane in Palatine, and a juvenile each were cited for underage consumption of alcohol. Police on patrol in the 14200 block of Wolf Road saw a car pull into Promenade Plaza and park just before 3 a.m., and saw four young men get out of the car and sit on the curb. The officer smelled alcohol on all four young men, and two bottles of open liquor were found in the trunk, according to the report. The four were released to a sober driver.

Domestic Battery

Laura L. Goldman, 50, of the 15700 block of Tiffany Drive in Orland Park, was charged with domestic battery. Police were called to the address at 6:15 p.m. when a man said Goldman pushed him, punched him, and scratched him with broken glass, according to the report.

SATURDAY, JULY 30

DUI, Open Cans in Car

Michael W. Christ, 27, of the 12800 block of Kenneth Avenue in Alsip, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal transportation of alcohol. An officer on patrol near the intersection of 143rd Street and Jefferson Avenue saw a car parked along some construction barricades around 12:30 a.m. The officer noticed that the car did not have a light over the rear license plate. The officer smelled alcohol coming from inside the car and saw two open cans of beer in the cargo netting attached to the passenger seat, according to the report.

Cannabis Arrest

Belal Hadidi, 25, of the 13600 block of Cherry Lane in Orland Park, was charged with possession of cannabis over 30 grams, operating a vehicle with a tinted front window, driving without insurance, and driving without a license on his person. An officer on patrol in the 15100 block of South Harlem Avenue saw a car with tinted driver's side windows at 5:50 p.m. During the stop, the officer smelled burnt cannabis coming from inside the car, and search found a large bag of cannabis, police said. The cannabis weighed in at 34.5 grams, police said.

THURSDAY, JULY 28

DUI After Hitting Storefront

Robert W. Stefanski, 51, of the 15700 block of Lake Hills Court in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Stefanski had crashed into an empty storefront at 8600 159th St. just before 8:30 p.m., according to the report. An officer on the scene determined that Stefanski had been drinking, police said. Stefanski was taken to Silver Cross Hospital for treatment of his injuries, and was later released on an I-Bond.

DUI-Drugs After Hitting Car, Van

Patrick S. Steagerman, 44, of the 14200 block of Terry Drive in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs. Orland Fire Protection District paramedics said Steagerman had caused two accidents in a parking lot in the 9900 block of 151st Street around 2:30 p.m. He had struck an Acura in the bumper and a van in the bumper, the report said. A witness reported that Steagerman appeared intoxicated.

MONDAY, JULY 25

Bailing on Billiards Bill

Mohammad B. Salah, 21, of the 9800 block of Harlem Avenue in Chicago Ridge, was cited for theft. An employee at Protyme Billiards, 15605 94th Ave., said Salah left without paying his tab around 9 p.m.
