Police Blotter: Reckless Driving, DUIs and Retail Theft

Orland Park Police Reports, Aug. 1-4.

THURSDAY, AUG. 4

Warrant Executed

Gary Gwin, 48, of the 5400 block of West Quincy in Chicago, was arrested on an out-of-state warrant. An officer on patrol in the 15900 block of Will-Cook Road pulled over a car for improper registration around 4:30 p.m. Police found a a fugitive warrant issued out of Wisconsin for a robbery parole violation, carrying no bond, for Gwin, who was riding in the car, police said.

Cannabis Violation

Javier Nunez, 20, of the 300 block of 117th Street in Chicago, was cited for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia; Shannon R. Garlic, 20, of the 11200 block of Natchez Avenue in Worth, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. An officer on patrol at 1:20 a.m. in the 8100 block of 143rd Street saw that Nunez's car did not have a functioning rear tail light. While writing a warning, the officer smelled burnt cannabis coming from inside the car, police said. The officer found a small bag of cannabis in Nunez's pocket, and a cannabis grinder and smoking bowl were found in the car's front console, according to the report.

Violation of Order of Protection

Thomas J. Keith, 26, of the 18400 block of South Blodgett Road in Mokena, was charged with violating an order of protection. The caller said she saw Keith at the bar at Rock Bottom Brewery, 16156 LaGrange Road, and around 8 p.m. Keith made eye contact with the caller, police said. Keith admitted to violating the order at the woman's previous place of employment two weeks earlier, according to the report.

MONDAY, AUG. 1

DUI

Maria J. Reicher, 51, of the 100 block of Cochran Street in Manhattan, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving an uninsured vehicle. An officer on patrol near 151st Street and 88th Avenue saw Reicher swerving and change lanes without signaling around 1 a.m., according to the report. The officer smelled alcohol on Reicher's breath, police said. Reicher was later released on bond.

Speedy Warrant

Julian D. Rice, 20. of the 300 block of Bluff Street in LaGrange, was arrested on an in-state warrant. Rice was the passenger in a car police said was speeding in the 8000 block of 159th Street around 9:30 p.m. A name check revealed a warrant in DuPage County for an assault charge, police said. He was transferred to the DuPage County Sheriff on Aug. 2. The driver, whose name was not released, was cited with speeding over the posted limit.

Retail Theft—And More

Latrice L. Williams, 39, of the 600 block of North Latrobe Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft, obstructing justice, and was served with two warrants; Patricia A. Sparkman, 58, of the 2700 block of West Thomas in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Loss prevention at Claire's, 202 Orland Square Drive, saw Williams and Sparkman take merchandise from displays, hide the items in their purses and leave the store around 5 p.m., according to the report. Williams provided the agent and police with a false name and birth date, police said. Fingerprints later confirmed Williams' identity. A name check revealed a Chicago Police failure-to-appear warrant for possession of marijuana, carrying a $1,000 D-bond, and a Clayton, Mo., warrant for a probation violation on a forgery charge that carried no bond, police said. Sparkman was released on bond. Williams was held for the warrants.

Domestic Battery

Heather A. Mulder, 38, of the 8200 block of Stonehenge Drive in Orland Park, was charged with domestic battery. Police were called to the address at 5 p.m. after a woman said she had been hit in the head during an argument, according to the report.

Criminal Trespass

Timothy A. Jensen, 20, of the 8500 block of Highstone Way in Frankfort, was charged with criminal trespass and unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. Police received a suspicious person call around midnight. The caller saw a car driving up and down the 10500 block of Great Egret Drive, police said. Some time later, the caller saw Jensen lying on the driveway, according to the report. Jensen was being driven by a friend to the department, but jumped out of the car, according to the report. He was later apprehended by Frankfort Police and transferred back to Orland. The Orland officer determined Jensen had been drinking.
