Police Blotter: Retail Thefts; Underage Partying in Forest Preserve

FRIDAY, MAY 20

Felony Theft at Jewel-Osco

Teresa M. Kruel, 43, of the 6300 block of Cornfield Road in Matteson, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft. A loss prevention employee at Jewel-Osco, 9352 159th St., reported seeing Kruel fill several reusable shopping bags in her cart and then pass all points of purchase with the bags. Kruel was confronted by the employee in the vestibule on the produce side of the store, with the value of the merchandise in the bags totaling around $575, according to the report. Kruel was a corrections officer for the Cook County Sheriff's Department but had been fired in February, according to the report. The Assistant State's Attorney's Office approved the felony retail theft charge.

Theft from H&M

Corey W. Wright, 20, of the 6500 block of Loomis Boulevard in Chicago, was arrested and charged with retail theft, police said. According to the report, loss prevention at the H&M store in Orland Square Mall witnessed Wright place clothing from a display into a bag from another store. Wright was held pending bond and is due in court in Bridgeview on July 22.

Looking For a Fight

Fidencio Pioquinto, 25, of the 9800 block of 144th Street in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and driving on a suspended license, and Filiberto DelCarmen-Luna, 23, of the same address, was arrested on a warrant for his arrest and also charged with assault, police said. According to the report, police were called regarding two people trying to get into an apartment in the 9900 block of El Cameno Real Drive. Pioquinto and DelCarmen-Luna were seen by the victim pounding on a glass door, yelling, swearing and asking to fight the male resident. DelCarmen-Luna had two warrants in Orland Park for failure to appear in court for driving with no license and a DUI charge.

Bad Backseat Behavior

Gina M. Mazika, 19, of the 400 block of Sterling Street in Justice, was arrested and cited for possession of cannabis. According to the report, a car with Mazika in the back seat was pulled over because the passenger was not wearing a seat belt. The officer smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana, and Mazika was seen in the back seat with a glass pipe and traces of marijuana around her, police said. Mazika is due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center June 14.

THURSDAY, MAY 19

Leaving an Accident Scene

Moises Gonzalez-Gardo, 27, of the 9100 block of Lincoln Court in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to give aid or information. He also was given traffic tickets for the accident and is due in court in Bridgeview.

Cruising for Trouble

Joseph A. Porras, 20, of the 10300 block of Saint James Place in Munster, Ind., Adrian Eloisa, 20, of the 1900 block of Cherrywood Court in Munster, Ind., and Matthew A. Shreve, 20, of the 1600 block of Bluebird Lane in Munster, Ind., were arrested and cited for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, According to the report, a patrol officer followed a car with tinted windows as it moved to another location in the Orland Square Mall parking lot. The officer saw the passenger door open but no one got out. Seeing this as suspicious, the officer approached the car and smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car, the report said. A search yielded several bags, a pill bottle and a glass bong pipe. The suspects are all due in court June 14 at the Orland Park Civic Center.

Driving (Not Far) Under the Influence

Arturo P. Gonzalez, 32, of the 9900 block of 143rd Street in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with driving without a license and driving under the influence of alcohol, and Pedro Fiscal, 23, of the 9800 block of El Cameno Real, was arrested and charged with obstructing an officer. According to the report, Gonzalez was being questioned regarding another matter when it was discovered that he did not have a valid driver's license. The officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath, and Gonzalez later got into his car and began to drive. The officer stopped him, but Gonzalez began to walk home. The officer eventually arrested Gonzalez and took him to the station for field sobriety tests, which Gonzalez failed. Fiscal was arrested because he had approached the officer regarding the initial arrest. Gonzalez was released on bond and is due in court in Bridgeview on July 8. Fiscal could not post bond and was awaiting a bond hearing.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18

Underage Drinking in Forest Preserve

A woman reported seeing a large group walk into a forest preserve near the 8800 block of Beverly Lane. The responding officer followed a trail of beer bottles and later found a glass bowl used for cannabis in one of the vehicles and two bags containing cannabis in the other. Daniel P. Hynes, 19, of the 7900 block of West 97th Street in Hickory Hills, Michael R. Murphy, 19, of the 8800 block of Prestwick in Orland Park, Stephen J. Murphy, 19, of the 13700 block of South 86th Avenue in Palos Park, and Justin J. Walker, 19, of the 8400 block of Paloma Drive in Orland Park, were arrested and cited for underage possession and consumption of alcohol. Walker and Hynes also were cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. They are all due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center June 14.

TUESDAY, MAY 17

Stealing With Child in Tow

Victoria A. Howard, 19, of the 0-100 block of Aegina Drive in Tinley Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft. According to the report, Howard had her child in a stroller and spent a very long time inside Macy's in Orland Square Mall. Loss prevention reported seeing her place jewelry on a stroller and then head upstairs to the clothing department. She took the clothes to the fitting rooms and put them back. The employee noticed that the jewelry had gone missing. The child was turned over to a relative. Howard is due in court in Bridgeview June 14.

MONDAY, MAY 16

One Headlight, Some Marijuana

Joshua A. Johnson, 25, of the 14000 block of Walter Wagen Lane in Midlothian, was arrested and cited for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, police said. According to the report, Johnson was pulled over because he had one working headlight on his car, and the officer then smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. A small container and pipe were recovered from the car. Johnson is due in court at the Orland Park Civic Center on June 14.

FRIDAY, MAY 13

Grabbing Shades

Carl D. Brown, 48, of the 5600 block of Winchester Drive in Chicago, was arrested and charged with retail theft. According to the report, a Carson Pirie Scott employee witnessed Brown remove two pairs of sunglasses and place them in his pockets. Brown was released on bond and due in court June 14 in Bridgeview.

SATURDAY, MAY 7

Concealed Concealer

Michael L. Dawson, 27, of the 2000 block of South 14th Avenue in Broadview, Ill., was arrested and charged with retail theft, and Laquita P. Bell, 27, of the 200 block Owen Street in Matteson, was cited for retail theft. According to the report, a Sears employee witnessed Bell place clothes on a stroller she was pushing. Dawson and Bell then went to the makeup and perfume area and placed makeup and perfume items underneath the clothes. The couple paid for the clothes but the makeup and pefume remained concealed. Dawson was charged due to prior arrests. He posted bond and is due in court in Bridgeview on June 14. Bell was released at the scene and is due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center on June 7.
