Police Blotter: Taser-Tosser Arrested; Identity Thefts

Orland Hills police reports, May 15-31.

SUNDAY, MAY 29

Warrant Shown During Stop

Jermaine Smith, 31, of the 1600 block of Lexington Avenue in Ford Heights, was arrested for failing to appear in court on Chicago Heights police charges. Orland Hills police stopped Smith's car in the 17100 block of LaGrange Road around 5 p.m. for a possible license plate violation but filed no charges of their own.

Domestic Battery

Debra A. Bockelman, 48, of the 16800 block of Vicky Lane in Orland Hills, was charged with domestic battery. Police said Bockelman punched a man in the face inside her home around 11:30 p.m. She split the man’s lip, but he refused medical treatment, police said.

Taser-Tosser Arrested

Anthony J. McCarthy, 33, of the 11600 block of Roberts Street in Mokena, was arrested around 11 p.m. for possessing heroin and evading police on April 28. In that event, , according to the report.

In the latest report, police said they received a tip that McCarthy was now living at a home in Chicago Ridge, and on the night of May 15 detectives set up surveillance. Police approached McCarthy as he arrived and attempted to arrest him. He turned to run but was taken to the ground “to defeat further flight,” police said.

McCarthy was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

Identity Thefts

  • A 43-year-old man told police on May 15 that someone had made two unauthorized purchases totaling $235 with his debit card in Florida.
  • A 51-year-old woman told police on May 20 that someone may have stolen her credit card. She said she received a telephone call about owing money to “USA Cash Store," which she's never visited.
  • A 37-year-old man told police on May 31 that someone used two of his credit cards to make unauthorized purchases in Texas, New York and California totaling more than $375.
