UPDATE: Worth Man Turns Himself in to Police for Grab and Run Jewelry Thefts

Man is responsible for two thefts in Orland Park and possibly four others in different towns.

A Worth man turned himself into the and was accused of stealing from at least six jewelry stores, two within Orland Park.

Jason M. Murawski, 35, of the 7400 block of West 115th Street in Worth, was charged with two counts of felony retail theft. Bail was set at $25,000 for each charge, and his next scheduled court date is Nov. 7.

Murawski had visited jewelry stores, initially appearing as a customer, and asked to see a 22-inch gold chain, according to a release from the Orland Park Police Department. When the store clerks handed him the chains, he took off running out of the stores, police said.

“He gets into a general conversation with the clerks, and gets them comfortable,” Orland Park Police Sgt. Scott Malmborg said. “Then as soon as he gets the chain in his hand, he’s out the door.”

The man is responsible for two thefts in Orland Park, where he fled with chains on Sept. 15 and Sept. 22 that are worth $2,200 and $2,450. He is also believed to be responsible for similar thefts in Chicago Ridge, Joliet, Oak Brook and Lombard, according to the release.

The approximate value of all chains taken is $20,000, according to Orland Park police. 

Police described the man as follows:

  • White
  • Age: mid 30’s
  • Medium build
