Police: Orland Park Man Destroys Borrowed Phone, Asks to Use Another

Oak Lawn police said that a man absconded with a store’s cordless phone after borrowing it to make a call.

Police responded to Honeycuts at 5172 W. 95th St. around 8 p.m. Sept. 20. Informed by the business owner that a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt was in possession of the salon’s cordless phone, police searched the block.

According to the report, a salon employee said that a man indentified as Timothy Saxton, 21, of Orland Park, came into the shop and asked to borrow the phone.

Saxton went out to the sidewalk. When his conversation became loud and vulgar, the employee asked him to lower his voice or hang up the phone, police said.

Saxton quieted down and walked out of the employee’s sight, according to police. A few minutes later he returned to the salon and asked if he could use the phone. The employee told him he didn't return it. Saxton said he knew where the phone was and ran out to get it but he never returned, reports said.

Police searched the area between Honeycuts and Coldstone Creamery. Officers found Saxton in front of Coldstone Creamery using the ice cream shop’s phone police said.

Saxton allegedly told police that the phone belonged to his grandmother and he was trying to call her. Police said that Saxton was “highly intoxicated.” He admitted to being drunk and on K2 synthetic pot, the report said.

The salon’s cordless phone was found in a planter outside the business. Police said it was destroyed.

When shown the phone, Saxton responded, “of course, I knew I smashed the phone,” according to police.

Saxton is charged with criminal damage to property. He is to appear in court in Bridgeview on Oct. 16.
