Woman Sexually Assaulted in La Grange Parking Garage

[UPDATED] Police charged a man with aggravated criminal sexual assault after the incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning.

A suspect is in custody after a woman was sexually assaulted early Tuesday morning in the parking garage at the intersection of 6th and Harris in downtown La Grange, La Grange police said.

David A. Mason, 28, who is homeless with a last known address in Naperville, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault.

The woman, who is from Brookfield and also homeless, was sleeping in the garage around 4:40 a.m. when police said the assault occurred at the "top of the staircase of the main vestibule" of the structure.

Police said that the woman had a cell phone and called 9-1-1 immediately after the attack, and that the suspect was spotted on the garage's security cameras by a dispatcher and an officer.

No weapons were used in the assault; the victim was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries, according to police.

Mason, who was arrested near the garage after a foot pursuit, was also charged with resisting arrest. He was transported to Cook County Jail, where he remains on $500,000 bond.

Hopefully this is an isolated incident. I fear for the safety of the kids that tend to hang out on the top of the garage. Usually the police shoo them away but you can not always depend on that.

I too hope this is an isolated incident, but am becoming more concerned. Several months ago, I was walking my dog close to Kensington and Burlington when a person started yelling at me from the other side of the street asking "hey, does your dog want to fight me?" I immediately called the police, who informed me the man had just left their station and was on his way to beds. As I am new to LaGrange, I researched beds only to realize there appear to be 5 homeless shelters in downtown LaGrange. Please refer to the beds website bedsplus.org for more information. I am not saying that homeless people in an area lead to higher crime rates because I have no facts to support that statement. I simply read the LaGrange news and take note of trends and unfortunately now there is a sexual assault to add to my concern.

Wow this guy was trying to date me. He wanted to come over my house too soon. Real aggressive type. But something told me not to bring him to my home. So i never did. His vibe was strange, i eventually stopped answering his calls.that's sad, cause u never know who u might bring home around your kids. And i have kids. But i dont bring men around my kids unless we are together. I'm glad my intuition is good. He could of known where i stayed! poor lady, i pray for her.Makes me more aware of people i meet also
