Shoplifter Tells Cops How All This Makeup Keeps Falling Into Her Clothes At The Makeup Store: Police

After the cosmetics fell into her scarf and jacket, the Bedford Park woman made a "spur of the moment" decision to just leave without paying for any of it, police said.

A Bedford Park woman charged with shoplifting from the Sephora in the Orland Park mall explained to police that she was only guilty of taking makeup that accidentally fell into her clothes, police said.

The hard-luck tale reportedly told by Vanessa Saucedo, 26, of 7708 66th Place didn't get her out of the theft charge. In fact, the Orland Park police got the go-ahead to hit her with a felony due to a prior retail theft conviction she caught in DuPage County.

Saucedo's sad story started when a Sephora security guard reportedly spotted her swiping three tubes of mascara and two eyeliners. Saucedo left the store without paying for the makeup, police said, and the guard stopped her and held her in a back office for the cops.

When an officer arrived, Saucedo told him she hadn't planned on stealing, police said. She recalled how "she was shopping with her boyfriend at the mall when they walked into Sephora." And that was when everything supposedly fell into place.

"Vanessa stated that she was holding the mascara in her hand when it fell from her hand into her scarf," police said. "Vanessa then left the item concealed in her scarf. Vanessa then stated that she was looking at some eyeliner when it slipped down the sleeve of her jacket."

With the mascara and eyeliner safely ensconced in her clothes—through no fault of her own—Saucedo explained how she was possessed by a "spur of the moment thought" to "leave the items concealed," police said.

"Vanessa decided at this point to leave the store," police said, but that decision proved to be a poor one as she ran into the security guard shortly after departing.

When an officer asked Saucedo if she had been arrested before for stealing, she "appeared very nervous and started to avoid eye contact and stated she did not want to talk anymore," police said.
